Totally agree with you on McDonald, especially in the absence of much quality on the next managers odds list.

KM has lifted the players, got the results and got the energy back into the fans. He also has shown he is willing to give the youth players a chance, which for me is a big plus.

With regards to the DOF I took a look at his former managers and its pretty thin on the ground for likely candidates. Only Kenny Jackett as a (Barry Fry type old head)

I know Jewell has done it before with Wellans, so he could be a maybe.

So you think having the following:

    Owner - that doesn’t care
CEO - That is learning on the job
Football manager - Learning on the job.

You think long term that smells of success?

However if he is appointed tomorrow and we lose on Saturday I can read the thread through imagination from Saturday night. I think Mac has done a great job and he would be my choice. But it’s a very difficult decision

So the bloke who walked when he met our new German owners now wants to work with one of them. What complete BS.

He foresaw that Rahic was going to be very hands on and didn't fancy that. Which was a very prescient and wise move. I'm also far from convinced that this move back to City will happen. But he'll no doubt know that Rupp is about as far from a meddling owner as you can get. What we don't know is just what's happening behind the scenes at Wrexham and if he's experiencing interference from above there. I doubt its veracity, but I can sort of see why it could happen, even if it doesn't.

Given he still has a playing career, unless he knows he can no longer play, then K Mc would be absolutely mad.

Perhaps a little out of date but exceptionally scary figures!

‘A remarkable 75 managers were sacked, quit or failed to last after temporary stints in charge last season - the highest total in English football history.
In addition, the average tenure for a departing manager last term was an all-time low of just 423 days’. https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11096/10811856/football-manager-job-security-at-all-time-low-sky-sports-study-finds

If l was him I would want to play on for another couple of seasons before possibly going into management.

Perhaps he hasn’t been on since it was posted or he probably doesn’t want to comment on it at all

Apart from the fact he hasn't done all that much to show he should be appointed yet, wouldn't McDonald's playing contract potentially be an issue... what happens if he takes over, loses 5 in a row or a player passes sideways and suddenly everyone wants him sacked, what would happen with his contract? are we going to also have to pay up his playing contract for the next 2 years but lose him as a player?

No issues at all from it really other than working out a salary but to be honest I cant imagine it will be vastly different from what he's on now. You cant have 2 full time contracts at one time, they will allow dual contracts with some clubs use like player-coach or fitness coach-physio but you cant have 2 full time contracts running. We wouldn't pay him out as the players contract would have to be waived to sign a managers deal but most likely option is we would just rework his current contract, he'd become manager for the remaining 18 months of his deal and I'd imagine the salary would be similar. Nothing to say City couldn't give him a payment when the deal goes but it doesn't look like they would be obligated to.

A 2020 LMA leak had the average L2 managers salary at just over £80K a year, likely inflated a bit since then and I cant imagine we paid the bang average anyway, likely more the top end. Sparks a few years back said on a podcast we don't offer stupid money anymore, nobody for the Adams season was on more than about £2-2.5K a week. I'd imagine it would be a similar ball park number, maybe a little lower but the club could offer to cover his coaching badge courses? If McDonald is going for his A license (Lvl4), it's just over £3,600 for the course. If he is going for his Pro license (Lvl5) it is just under £10,000 for the course.

Club would likely offer lower as its his first role, but then McDonald would have to weigh up the future. Management is a gamble, but it's a huge first role and if it goes well his next role up the pyramid could be double what he signs on for in L2 here. Whereas this will likely be his last playing deal and there's no guarantees a L2 club offers him a management job out the gate when he retires, which after this season with his struggles for fitness and another bout of illness, he'll likely call it a day in the summer anyway.

One name who was mumbled around for our job looks set to be taking the MK Dons role, Mike Williamson and his backroom staff are joining L2 with MK.

The answer to that question is simple. You will (in my opinion) lose the best chance of being promoted this season and having a good run in The FA Cup. Mr McDonald might turn out to be a brilliant choice; but I don't think he will. Leave him in caretaker charge for now and see if the sacked manager/new manager bounce continues, though that might mean you miss out on the best option to take over permanently.

One thing I see many posting which I disagree with completely; that there are no quality names on the list of possible applicants. There are a number of more than decent prospective managers and one who is outstanding.

He has got to be a goer for me therefore.

Seriously , I’m rapidly coming round say let’s give him a chance, talking everything into account, I look at it like this . If someone else had come in and seen two favoured teams beaten and the second string beating Grimsby’s second string quite easily then we would have though we had recruited the new PEP?

He has not directly said no, contrary to what people think. Its all in the words he uses …he isn’t ruling it out Idle. He would be mad to say no imho. It could be his only opportunity in the next 18 months or so?

It’s a doddle. Any contract can be rewritten as long as it’s legal.
