Absolute poppycock! How is McD the favourite, with no managerial experience at all? And that former Crewe manager that got them relegated with two months of the season left? That list is a worrying read if that’s all they can make up!

Tin hat on for me but my preference is Warnock if for nothing else but to steady the ship, we need a Experience head at this time either DOF or full manager

 

How the odds work once they are out straight away, most are just shots in the dark. McD will be favourite just because it's his job at the minute. It's already shifted since I posted this and now Cowley, Artell & McD are joint 5/1.

If someone whacks a tenner on a name, within an hour that will shift down a tonne. Small markets for lower league jobs, 10 or 20 notes off the bat moves names around like made. Cant tell the list is still in the nonsense because after 12/1 the names get daft.... Phil Parkinson, Scott Brown and Frank Lampard all 20/1. Chris Houghton, Damien Duff, Sol Campbell, Gary Bowyer and Sam Allardyce are all 25/1.

 

If is does go to Artell, he'll love having Sparks and Gent take on some of his Crewe roles he is used to....

Artell subsequently said he was "unquestionably proud" to be "the only person who has achieved promotion as both a player and manager at Crewe," though it ultimately proved exhausting. Reflecting on his managerial spell at Crewe, Artell said:

"I was doing coaching, recruitment, scouting, loan strategies, transfer strategies, individual development and contract negotiations. Everything you can think of, really, on top of being the manager. I was doing all I could do to look after everyone. My assistant, my coaches, the analyst, the academy manager, the head of coaching, all the way down to the head of the pre-academy; even the tea lady! ... I loved having all that responsibility, and I learned so much from being able to do so much. But, in truth, by the end, I was out of puff."

 

Not read the whole thread but has anyone mentioned Karl Robinson? One of the most experienced managers in the EFL and a 40% win rate in his managerial career.

Other than that, Mike Williamson and Danny Cowley are the other options that appeal to me.

I think people have heard of Mike Williamson, both from being a player and seeing the progress that Gateshead have made. Gateshead existed and have been doing well long before one viral video of a decent goal

 

He has had a promotion and a relegation on his cv but he is said to be passionate on the touch line some people seem to think that is important

 

Put that into perspective.

The rise in league position is no different to Parky taking us from 22nd in League 2 to 7th In League one (which we were at one point in 13/14 before the bad run kicked in), and the cup thing is no different to a championship manager taking his club to the league cup final. It's hardly ground breaking and it's hardly spectacular.

We need better than a manager from stage five of the league whose come to prominence because of one goal that's gone viral.

We need someone who can come in and manage players who have played in the CC & PL and age group international level.

Someone who can manage the egos of underperforming players, rather than those that until 12 months ago worked on a building site Monday to Friday.

Someone who can manage players earning more in a year than most people earn in 5 years on a quarter of a million a year rather than £2.50 and a mars bar, and above all we need a manager who has at least an idea of how league two differs from other leagues, which it does.

Appointing someone like him could work, but more than likely it wouldn't and 12 months from now we would be on "rinse & repeat". It would be like appointing Hughes in reverse - someone who hasn't a clue how league two works.

Now is absolutely not the time to be delving into non league football for a manager with "potential", in the position we are in we need it packed up and ready to unwrap and go.

 

I'm not sure if they are like SkyBet but if they are then Sky Bet have a rule where is the caretaker manager is in charge for 10 games they are deemed the winner so caretakers always get set at low odds to guard against this. 10 games for McDonald would be Barnsley on 14th November so not that long off for 10 games although unlikely.

Lets get a manager who will recall Jake Young and have him scoring for fun like he is doing at swindon!

 

And right there is the problem many people will think like you and as soon as we lose a game or two it will be thrown back at him and the board no matter how good he is.

 

Nice one. He's not managed a match yet and already we are playing league one teams (Isn't it ten league games ?)

 

And so they should. We are absolutely not in a position to risk a rookie at this point. This appointment is probably the most critical one in many years and has to be right. Get it wrong and the consequences are huge for the club, so sorry, a non league manager is not the right fit at the moment.
