Oh well. Now the players can concentrate on Saturday and show them that it was Cook who deserved the award…

Think the votes are do around December time. At that point Cook was scoring goals but wasn’t that great.

Now, he’s playing very well and scoring. All round game is top draw.

Shocked he didn’t win it but I understand why if the voting was around December like I said.

Votes are submitted via the managers of the league. It's on the EFL website.

"Based on a 4-3-3 formation, the selection process involves each club manager nominating their own team just from the division their club played in. Once the votes were counted, the 11 players who received the highest number of votes in their position and manager, will be named in their respective division’s team of the season. The 3 players with the highest votes will complete the shortlist for the player of the season award for each of their respective division's.

Entry will close on Monday 20 March."

Shame Cook didn't win it. Wonder how many from the team of the season sign for Wrexham in June?

What makes you think Cook wouldn’t join them on a free?

He probably would, I reckon 99% of professionals in L1&2 would join Wrexham for the money and exposure they offer right now.

It makes me chuckle when idiots like Suzanna Reid describe the success as "Roy of the Rovers" stuff as if they were a massive underdog.

Congratulations to them but unfortunately, just like Salford until the BBC got bored with their stagnation, Wrexham will be the full focus of any FL media attention for a while.

Can guarantee Salford vs Wrexham will be on Sky twice next season. The EFL just signed a new contract with Sky 3 weeks back, i hope they have expanded the allowance for L1&2 games to be shown. On the old contract, they have League 1 and 2 tied together, and then other rights for the championship, but on the old contract Sky were only able to show 20 games from L1&2 a season, but as your Sunderlands, Sheff Weds and Derbys of the world were in L1 for the majority of the last contract, it was pretty much L1 only as part of that deal with the odd L2 game thrown in. I think the championship deal is a minimum of 2 games a week and also a minimum of 2 midweek runs per season, where Sky show every Championship game on the red button.

With Wrexhams pull to casual fans, they'll take a fair few of the L1&2 allowance going forward. The BBC Radio coverage alone for Wrexham vs Notts Co the other week had over 1.1M listeners, never mind the BT figures. The numbers Wrexham videos do for BT sports on Twitter is ridiculous, Sky will want to eat as much out of the Wrexham pie as they can.

I like Wrexham.. They have had it very rough for years and have been nearly team for ages... who was that really good striker they had? Lee Trundell ,,,... a beer monster but could score a goal....

Any football club has had it rough , until they find the magic money tree!

Show me one that’s stood on its own two feet without debt?

What club in 2023 can compete without racking up a bit of debt? What happens when Rupp wants his 2mill back from us and we’ve hardly been successful have we?
Id much rather clubs like Wrexham and Notts County next season over the likes of Crawley and Sutton.

Comments like this are great. You’d take Ryan Reynolds and his money here in a heart beat, you’d take a Disney documentary on us and you’d take the world wide exposure that they are generating and you wouldn’t give a toss if fans from other clubs were “sick and tired” of hearing about it.
You can see what it actually means to the owners and maybe take some time to have a look at what they’re doing not just at the club but for the town and the community. I wish them well and hope they can climb the divisions.

I find that a little difficult to accept, not checked the stats but I would think with the league goals Cooks has scored there won't be many teams he hasn't put at least one goal past their keeper over the two games.

I was thinking it might have been that Hoskins has made 1more assist than Cook although Hoskins is still 8 goals behind Cook which is a pretty big margin ;).

Didn’t realise at the time, but I’ve since been told voting is done at around the turn of the year!
I’m guessing Cook has really pushed on since then - as I think he and Hoskins were neck and neck at one point

I was enjoying your post until you mentioned "Disney", I agree they are doing a great job both on and off the pitch, I wonder how much of the Disney money is going into Wrexham FC rather than the new owners own money their % of the takings.
The Yanks can be pretty gullible at times with regards what's going on in little old Wrexham, before the game they were speaking with Americans who have traveled over without tickets enjoying a British beer in a traditional British pub "The Turf".

    That was the case @Gardscoigne@Gardscoigne

Weirdly though, the awards page for this year has gone down? -> https://www.efl.com/EFLAwards2023/award-categories/team-of-the-season/

Even weirder, the main link now if you google EFL player awards reverts to the EFL 2020 awards? -> Team of the Season - EFL

I'm assuming someone from the EFL is working on the site and has messed something up with the URL direct, which has put the old 2020 page as the 'live' page and they need to do some serious tidying up.
