He would need to play so deep to even see the ball totally out of his position he is a forward who's job is to score goals 19 I think so far this season remind me again how many Oliver has scored ?? it's the way we are set up that does him no favours Haaland would struggle to score goals for us in this league the way we set up
It's been the same for years Doyle being a classic example, even Angol has been on the score sheet for Sutton give him another week or so and he will have scored more than Oliver
We seem to attract big name managers with big egos who can't/won't change their thought process maybe that's something to do with season ticket uptake
Feed Cook and he will do his job and score it really is that simple or would you prefer him to join the Tippy Tappy brigade in midfield/ defence and not
You will be criticizing Lewis next for not putting crosses in to their box
HIS JOB IS TO SCORE GOALS!!!!!

it would have been nice if we could have "raised our game" bearing in mind an auto spot was almost within reach

Or is it the teams job to help him score
You don't win games not scoring and Cook is the only one capable of doing that regularly

Unfortunatly Sam Stubbs said exactly the same with regards his experiences playing for other clubs when they visit Valley Parade, but that's one of the reasons I thought Hughes and Gent brought seasoned pros in to cope with the pressure that 17,000 Bradford City fan's put on the home team at Valley Parade.

Yesterday was crying out for the energy & drive that East has shown when picked. And why wasn't eisa turning canavan on his arse at every opportunity? Once again Hughes picked the wrong team for the job and deployed the wrong tactics. Its almost as if he's happy to take a point at home. Who dares wins Rodney.

No, all players are there to help the TEAM. Moving like the marshmallow man and hardly running isn’t helping the team is it.

Look, our CM needs to change. Smallwood needs dropping but how many times did the players look up to find Cook stood still? 70% plus of the ball highlights to me a lack of runners available for the forward past.

When Cook isn’t scoring he is woeful.

I agree. Barrow were on a poor run before arriving at VP yesterday and I'm sure would have settled for a point before the game. And they set out their stall from the word go. They were well organised from a defensive perspective and knew exactly how to nullify our main scoring threat - play two tall strong CBs and don't give him any space by sticking close to him.

We, no, Hughes played straight into their hands in two ways. Firstly, play out from the back after pointlessly passing between the defenders waiting for an opening. That might be the best way to play at the PL level which these days looks more like a game of chess but it doesn't work in Div 2 where the principal advantage goes to the opposition who simply have more time to organise themselves defensively. Secondly play a narrow formation without the width to occasionally get around defenders and get the ball into the box.

This isn't a new problem created by Barrow. Right from the first game against Donny we have struggled against teams who are well organised defensively. I had hoped that Hughes would find a way to overcame that by changing the tactics or the players. Unfortunately he hasn't learned how to do that as yet and continues to rely upon the same tactics which have failed on other occasions. Hughes makes it so easy for the opposition managers. 'Don't worry guys. City will piss around at the back and give us the time to get organised!'

The result was inevitable yesterday and another missed opportunity. Our striker barely got a look in from the attention of their CBs and we struggled to break down their defence. The only time when things improved was the final quarter when Banks was introduced. He was played wider and at the same time Costelloe moved from a central position into a wider one. Those changes certainly caused some problems for Barrow but didn't address the issue for Cook being so tightly marked.

It's wrong to accuse Barrow of playing anti-football although some of their falling over and time wasting was frustrating if not shameful. They set out their stall to leave with a point and more than achieved that. We can't blame Barrow for our problems. We have to look to ourselves to change things particularly at home and to learn the lessons from yesterday and similar performances. Unfortunately Hughes appears incapable of doing that.

Ironically it is my view is that it is City who are playing a form of ‘anti football’. We rely on passing and retention of the ball at all costs, with one striker. It is slow, laborious and lacks adventure and excitement. When the opposition exploit this system by gaining possession, the fact we are so deep, means they can get an attack away quickly, as seen yesterday.

They can then adopt a defensive, aggressive, physical, robust style of play, putting their team behind the ball while we continue to ‘pass it round the back’ in an aimless fashion. Throw into that diving, excessive periods of lying on the floor ‘injured’, delaying goal kicks, and other tactics to break up the game, then we don’t have the answer and flounder.

We are playing dull football with an obsession at retaining possession at all costs.

Here's what @fordy posted the other week with regards the game.

    "More to football than goals"

I'm still trying to work that one out, I've not seen or been to a single game of football in my life where a team claimed all three points without scoring.

But he is scoring and would score more with a modicum of service
I have a feeling you will get your way and he will be dropped for the Doncaster game
P!ease feel free to point out the advantages his replacement brings to the game

Amazing that out of 30 MH can't find 11 to beat the likes of Rochdale, Barrow et al .......

It's criminal how East isn't getting a run in the team. Each game MH has selected him to cover injuries, he has done quite well.

Time to drop Smallwood and give the lad a proper chance.

In league 2 it's all about winning save the "pretty" football for when you are 3 up and 5 mins to go
Play to the man who gets the goals then points and promotions take care of themselves
Football is such a simple game (or should be)

But when we don’t look like scoring then what? Keep him on the pitch to smell the place out. Seriously, he was that bad.

Your fixation that Cook is the problem is misguided at best.

We never will look like scoring playing backwards and sideways in our own penalty area even when a forward pass is on
As I've said before Haaland (or Sallah if you prefer) won't score for us under those circumstances
Let me know your thoughts on his replacement on Saturday
Stop blaming Cook without his goals we could well be fighting relegation

Hughes has been massively supported in what he has wanted to do - not really been mentioned in the light of yesterday's debacle but our dynamic recruitment team brought in 2 players in January, one who was hardly ever fit (Boja) and one who came from the Indian League (Derbyshire) - and guess what, after 2 games each both are injured!

We still have a long, long way to go......

Serious question. Who would you play instead of him and why?.

We would be nowhere near playoffs without Cook this season in my, and I suspect the majority of other fans, opinion
