Yes makes sense, but I still think its an area of concern - see Colchester too. As I say maybe I am being too critical of Halliday in that it's more to do with the style of full back Hughes has gone with. For example, I think a Darby style full back would be more effective in these situations.

This is about game management. If we are attacking we want the full backs to join in. At the point when we had been pushed back into our own half 20/15 minutes out, that is when we want the team to defend and hang onto the points. I still think that is the manager’s decision. We are not good enough to ride two horses we have to make a decision are we going to conserve all 3 points or try and score the second goal.

That's ok if the players are coached that way,but we have had so many players in the right wing position that I doubt if that is the case,in which case it is the right backs job to cover the back post.As another poster has pointed out, practically the whole defence was on the left when the cross came in,and the scorer was unchallenged.

Yes if Critchlow had been on Platt’s man and Platt on Halliday’s then the team would have been far further right. This was either done by Mansfield running to the left to open up space or due to ball watching by our CBs and getting pulled over the where the ball was. Any goal can be looked at and avoided with hindsight, but goals happen, had we taken our chances this wouldn’t be a debate. Hence why you should always win and lose as a team.

Like you, I want full backs to be defenders first and foremost. We have wingers, use them as such and let the defenders defend.

We are concerned about goalscoring, or at least “ opportunities “. Where does our existing crossing threat in open play come from?.
Yep….Right back. Back on point …scoring goals is our Achilles heel, not three or four goals conceded at the back post?

Derby was playing in a 442 . We don’t play 442. Bless him, it was rare he went beyond the halfway line!

In my opinion Sutton left of his own accord because he wouldn't be starting games. I bet Hughes wished he'd had him to bring on against Mansfield.

Aye, taking a break from decorating today. 1/2 “ of frost as well. Just thought I’d nip in for a while before breakfast. How’s your day?

Why, we had enough issues with keeping hold of the ball and we could hardly call Sutty “ defensive”.

He'd have done a far better job than Nevers Kev and I honestly think he'd have tracked the centre half instead of just letting him jog past.

It wasn't a mistake to let him and Songo'o leave but it was a mistake that we haven't replaced them with genuine midfield options.

aww bless.....I never knew you had a pet name for him :grinning:.
It seemed to work earlier in the season when we were on our decent run, whether its keeping hold of the ball or stopping them playing with it.

It wasn't the letting go of Songo'o and Sutton who cost us a win against Mansfield. It was that we needed the subs to the jobs Walker and East were doing, neither Songo'o or Sutton would have done that.

I’d go with that…Nevers ain’t a Wright either. He tracked back well when he came back from his injury.. Alas.
