Hughes will have spoken to his agent and said you might as well move him on as he’s slipped down my pecking order. That’s how these things work. Foulds then has to decide whether to sit and rot - or ply his trade elsewhere, with a fresh start under a new manager with a clean slate.

I don’t think a footballer wanting to play football deserves to be labelled someone with a bad attitude personally, as some other posters on here are saying.

Foulds has a baby and commute is important. He’s moved sideways in L2 and still stays within commuting distance. All makes sense to me. I wish him well, but more importantly, hope Bola is up to the task given he’s only played a dozen games in his career at an age where many will have played 150 ish+

You could level the same thing at our latest midfield recruit.

Players fall out of favour with managers all the time and sometimes they are moved in. Doesn’t mean the player is a bad egg or anything. C’est la vie.

By the same token, Does Adam Clayton lack balls then, having fallen out of favour at Doncaster?

    answer: nope.

    it’s just football, folks.

No probs. It ruined my day too! Could be worse, mind, could have been Carlisle fans who’d set off only to be shafted!

Foulds had played every game for months at left back, someone comes in on loan and he's wanting out. Before a ball is kicked.

I agree. I think, given how open we have looked since we brought in the diamond, MH is desperate to bring back the 4-2-3-1 shape.

To help us create more though he needs some pace and attacking endeavour in the full back slots and he probably (rightly) saw the left as our weakest side

We've sort of neglected our full back positions.

I don't mind Halliday, but these lads we've been playing are all pretty ordinary - Ridehalgh, Halliday, Foulds, Hendrie... none of them bring anything 'special'.

Considering how much PL teams rely on marauding full backs (I know, I know, it's L2 not the PL), I'm kind of surprised it wasn't sorted at the beginning of the season.

    Hopefully Boli makes a difference.

I'm with you. Full back is now one of the most effective roles in the modern game if you're lucky enough to have one that can contribute at both ends of the pitch.

Certainly at teams higher up in divisions that look to dominate, it should actually be expected.

I dont know the ins and outs but my personal opinion is that Foulds hasn’t done enough offensively to impress Hughes. They’ve worked in training, but he’s a CB playing LB and is what he is. Hughes gets frustrated his attacking output isnt improving and so brings in a supposedly more attacking LB. Foulds reads between the lines, feels he can’t be the ‘James Meredith’ type LB we are looking for to provide width in a diamond, so takes an opportunity to leave 10 days before the window shuts and he’d be consigned to the bench for the rest of the season?

Imagine if he goes to Harrogate, gets a load of game time at CB (alongside someone like AOC), and comes back with a load of experience he would have never had.

His loan move would be genius.

Alternatively, he just gets a load more minutes at LB - in which case I can see him making the move permanent in the Summer.

Interesting he seems happy with the other full back who can get forward but is slow to get back and defend and has been the cause of goals conceded down that side and regarly skinned by a quick player down that side

Are you saying we are a weakened team without Foulds ?

Depends how good his replacement is. However we do need a quicker and better full back on the other side. Haliday is noticeably slow and teams target him which has cost us goals

If Foulds was from Lo son or anywhere else than Bradford there simply wouldn’t be 11 pages for what is a very mediocre player, best of luck to him but we needed better. If we have it that remains to be seen and is down to the recruitment team.

Plus if Ridehalgh does come back fighting fit I believe as he was our first choice LB he would be Hughes preferred player in that position, I believe (could be wrong) when he went to Everton they played him as a CD it was originally where he played at City until he was moved to LB and did a reasonable job because his strength is as a defender.

Are you suggesting Hughes allowed the wrong full back currently playing, to leave. ie He should have allowed Halliday to go on loan instead.
Don’t hide behind whataboutism…who is the better of the two. Make your mind up time.

We've apparently enough creativity in this squad to get promoted, yet there's talk of a left back being a game changer? The problem never really was the left back position, it was more that Hughes hasn't got his front six firing together after over half the season gone. If the new lads brought in those positions and the the current ones do their jobs we won't have to worry about who is playing left back.

I believe Hughes said something along the lines of being pleased they've been able to bring Bola in because it was a position they weren't able to address in the summer, so it sounds like it was definitely in his plans but for whatever reason, wasn't possible then.
Foulds has probably fallen lucky with a deal not being done in the summer and Ridehalgh getting a long term injury. I doubt he would have seen much game time if either or both of those things had been different, and he would probably have been out in the wilderness like Hendrie.

And if the new guy gets here and has an attitude or can't be arsed.....or isn’t as good as everyone thinks he is. Just my opinion. Not saying Matty has an attitude problem, just that it seems a rash decision
