I can't believe it took someone so long Rod. I realised when i'd posted i'd forgot about his nearly season.

 

He's played both wide, centrally and now in a deeper role. He hasn't excelled in any of them and in the former two I'd suggest he was actually very poor.

It's easy to suggest he's been playing out of position but he's 26 and not far off 250 senior career appearances so at this point we really should know where he's best suited.

I mean, what's next if he continues being largely ineffective in this role? Convince everyone he's actually a great right back?

Ha ha Zesh. Something was fishy there. My theory was his wages were being subbed, as long as he started. He wasn’t picked on merit. Not many captains get subbed at HT. Thank god he moved on.

 

Gilliead really is the typical Jack of all trades and master of none. I think the reason he gets in the side is his fitness. He keeps going to the end and manages to get in amongst it to break up play, It’s a different story with the ball at his feet and time to do something with it. He seems to panic and misplaces passes a lot which as a central midfielder, is probably the most important attribute to have. His assist figures are poor and at this stage in his career, are unlikely to improve. I’d put him on a par with Smallwood and could see him competing in that defensive role, but we need a dominant centre midfielder who can drive and dictate the pace of game.

 

I don't think McCall made him captain. I think he was made captain by the powers that be in an attempt to bring in more Asian fans, it certainly wasn't a footballing decision. He certainly wasn't a footballer.

 

Not true, yes Davies was injured but we had just signed another tall CB, can’t remember his name and Pickford was eligible after we knocked Sunderland out.
PP chose not to play either of them and we were 2-0 down very quickly and the tie was over.

 

Can't really disagree but say the moment it's Gillead and Sutton. That's definitely not strong enough and imo needs to be addressed before the window closes.

 

I think you are mistaken. Pickford was recalled by Sunderland several days before the Reading replay.

I think the defender you refer to is Gary Mackenzie. I don't think he impressed greatly on his loan from Blackpool. I can see why Parkinson chose Sheehan ahead of him to be honest.

 

I think just one is fine then we have Odesebe, Gillead and Sutton giving competition for the other shirt.

 

Watch for calls for us to sign Conor McAleny in the Summer, despite the fact he's scored a characteristically low 5 in 38 appearances for Salford which is nowhere near good enough.

But he did look great against us in a recent one off game.
