I thought Glyn Hodges was a good set piece coach but we never seem to do anything from them also Scott Banks came with a reputation as a good set piece deliver and I haven’t seen him take one yet.
And please please leave at least one player upfield when defending corners

There must be a reason why the majority of managers certainly in league two don't have a lad with pace pulling defender out, no team would risk a one on one so I'm at a loss to see why a player isn't left on the halfway line.

I read somewhere, think it was the Rotherham manager saying that most goals conceded came from corners so to have everybody back made sense and was the right thing to do....

Personally, as a coach, I think that is almost a self fulfilling prophecy...by having everybody back you allow the opposition to send maximum men up...keep 2 players out and the attacking team send less men up so less of a threat....but perhaps stats in the latest UEFA Pro Licence encourage that as loads of teams seem to do it...

Hull and Blackburn left everyone back against us, you can’t see on tv so I wouldn’t know if the top teams do. But teams 2 leagues above us do it and everyone at this level. I think it’s the modern way to defend corners.

I tend to agree with it.

Defending a corner doesn't really strike me as an attacking move, and the chances of the quick lad left forward actually doing anything with a clearance can't be that high.

The fact is the ball comes in and is cleared straight back to the opposition. It drives me mad

Leave Wright up, inside our half, and he'll rip teams to pieces if the ball is cleared to him.

In all likelihood the opposition would keep two men back to mark him. As indicated it takes two players out of our box ?

I agree about leaving one or two players up. No team in their right mind is going to just leave them there unmarked. The only theory I can think of for keeping everyone back is that maybe managers think a packed penalty box is harder to score in than one with more spaces.

The other thing that does my nut in with corners is why we never leave a player lurking out wide of the penalty box on the opposite side from where the corner is taken. So often you see corners overhit, or headed away to the opposite side. A man lurking there could get the ball back into the box much quicker and easier than someone having to chase out of the box to retrieve it and then turn to cross it. Makes no sense to me.

True, but with his pace he could outrun both of them so its a win/win

It is an interesting conundrum this having everyone back to defend a corner.
Almost every clearance will be collected by the attacking team and launched back in.
It enables the attacking side just to leave one man back around the half way line (including us when we have one).
Leaving a quick man upfield means the attacking side have to leave 2 men back so must even out the number of men in the box.

    Mix and match.

    Don’t be predictable.

    Leave someone forward sometimes.

Not others, it’s not rocket science.

Keeper long early throw/ kick to a quick winger.

    mix it up a bit.

The set pieces were a lot better last night and the corner for the first goal was majestic

Not sure it was a majestic corner. Looked a decent delivery and some bizarre goalkeeping to me, but we'll take it.

The second was not the quality of cross but the determination from fatty Cook to make sure he won the ball great centre-forward play.

Felt good to score from a corner, rare as rocking horse shit. Good for the captain to get an assist as well, hopefully we’ll see a marked improvement from them going forward.

Platt also it the post from a deep Halliday free kick.
