    FA Laws Of The Game:

An indirect free kick is awarded if a goalkeeper, inside their penalty area, commits any of the following offences:

    • controls the ball with the hand/arm for more than six seconds before releasing it
A goalkeeper is considered to be in control of the ball with the hand(s) when:

    • the ball is between the hands or between the hand and any surface (e.g. ground, own body) or by touching it with any part of the hands or arms except if the ball rebounds from the goalkeeper or the goalkeeper has made a save
Must have been 15 - 20 seconds every time....

The majority would disagree. The severity of the injury is not an indicator of excessive force. The judgement of whether or not the force was excessive is completely subjective. Most neutrals would judge it to be not excessive.

Oh sure, it's always poor discipline.

But I feel the referee should be in control, and explaining himself if he's doing a good enough job.

To be honest with you, I'd need to see the Harratt incident again, but I don't feel like Madden had much control over anything other than the Donny player Tomlin - what a pillock lol

Sorry for sounding like a broken record but most impartial fans would say its not a red.

"The majority", give over, it's a ridiculously shit tackle.

    upload_2022-7-31_0-15-15.png

Look how how high up Osadebe's leg he is, it's an absolute disgrace and the easiest red card you'll ever give.

Unless you're Bobby Madden, in which case, you just make up some nonsense rules to avoid making a big decision.

You seem to be several posts into defending your position, so it's natural that you'll not want to concede now, but you should.

    Horror tackle.

Lad knew it, manager knew it, hauled him off right away.

You need to make the judgement based on the moving footage. I guarantee post the video on any forum and the vast majority will tell you it's not a red. Either we know the rules and nobody else does or everyone hates us.

Find a large neutral sample of football fans on any forum who agree in the majority it's a red and ill admit I've been a mug.

I don't need to browse other people's opinions on this, or anything else, I'm curious to see what people think but they certainly don't determine my thinking.

It's a horrific challenge, it's very quick, I'm sure it's not intentional, but the result is the result - not just a broken leg, but a very high foot that connects way above where it should.

Maybe Madden wasn't in a great position to see the impact and just how high it was, but I was sitting pretty close to it, and it's a straight red all day long.

I'm certain Madden will be reprimanded. It's not just an unfortunate challenge, it's a dangerous leg breaker.

Bullshit. The whole point of the modern tackle rule is that you can't just steam in, take the ball and then let the momentum of your follow through injure your opponent. City have had players sent off (Syers, Davies) without even making contact with the opponent, because their follow through was seemed to be out of control. This was as clear a red card as you'll ever see. You seem to delight in posting contrarian views. Any sensible football fan could see that this was a reckless challenge, endangering the opponent.

It was 20-30 seconds most of the time. He should have been sent off by half time for time wasting

Utter bollocks. If you hit a player hard enough to break his leg in two places, that is basically the definition of 'excessive force'.

And if you hit him right below the knee, it's the definition of 'reckless'.

    Just an awful, shocking challenge.

It was the speed of the collision that probably caused the injury, so no surprise someone who gives it a cursory glance gets it wrong (ie, a fan of another team who saw it once on the highlights without zoom). But watching it in detail, it's a straight red, no question.

Not sure he's on the wind up, we all see things differently.

But when it comes to decisions like this, there's a right answer.

And the right answer is a red card.

I must admit when I heard the descriptions of it I was expecting to see a player fly in off the ground studs first straight into the middle of the standing leg. When I saw it, had it not been for the horrendous outcome it looks like the type of challenge you see all the time when a player goes in for a loose ball. A red would not have been a bad decision but I can see why he didn't give it. The guy goes in with force. He knocks the ball away clean with his leading leg and as his other leg comes through Osadebe's gets trapped under it. The momentum causes the break. That's undeniable but you see equally forceful tackles all the time.
