Well I finally got to sleep at 4am, still worth it though.
    some stand outs for me:
Crichlow - lower league Van Dijk and he has the skills to match his haircut
Platt - looked solid and had a good debut
Halliday - crossing was terrible all game. Deep, loopy balls that were easy for the keeper
Smallwood - dominated midfield and looked to control the game
Oliver - first half I thought he showed some great hold up play. Second half barely had a a sniff
Haratt - looked like someone who could actually make something happen up front. Not sure what happened at the end.

Overall I’m encouraged by what I saw! Oh and how Donny didn’t have at least 2 red cards for time wasting needs to be investigated by the FA. Keeper should have been booked at least 3 times

It can't possibly be a yellow card. If it's a foul it broke the guy's leg and so it's a red. If it isn't a foul it's nothing. Appalling decision by the ref.

Agree. Do referees have performance reviews with the FA? Because surely his performance today requires a meeting to discuss what went wrong.
He was garbage but at least he added time on for time wasting. To be I’ve seen worse refs from memory.

    Think he was
Sorry Donny fans, totally missing the current laws (applied last season as well). Winning the ball is not the key criteria, endangering an opponent and not being in control of the challenge is what the referee should be assessing and today's toss pot f.... d it up

Bloody livid that a players season could be over after just 6 minutes due to a reckless and unesessary challenge

Its reassuring that we as City fans are the only ones who understand the rules around red cards. I challenge you to post the incident on any forum and get a majority to agree its a red. If anyone can do that I'll gladly hold my hands up and say I've got it wrong. Leave it up to those who are impartial.

I will say that as a neutral party I do feel @Fordy117@Fordy117 pessimism is more likely closer to the truth than your optimism. Even if every signing and every departure were good decisions there has been too much player turnover IMHO. It's likely to take too long for the players to get used to each other so they operate as a unit, them adapt to what Hughes wants out of them and also for Hughes to really understand in practice how to get the best out of all the players. Suspect the first half of the season will be all over the place with the second half of the season being where you will see if you have the right players and if Hughes is the right person for the job. You might sneak a playoff position if it does work out but I would say there is a good chance that this season is more about getting the base right and then working out what changes are needed to make a real push for automatic promotion next season

If you are a real fan why are you so keen on pushing impartiality in all your posts? Seem a little bit too neutral for my liking

I think impartiality is important. I don't equate constantly telling the referees that they are shit because they don't give us every decision we want with being passionate about city.

I believe the club know this also but clearly can’t be seen to highlight it. However, you can tell by the contracts given to the new signings.

This season is like a bonus season season. If we go up great but no excuses next season if we don’t kind of thing.

Did you see the Ched Evans sending off in the Wigan v Preston game?
As an impartial fan do you think that was a red card offence? I didn’t because both players slid in and neither were anywhere near the ball.
The tackle by the Donny lad was much worse.

I think it is about being objective!
As a City supporter, then my allegiance is clearly to City, but I balance that with trying to be fair.
As a match official, you should be able to make a balanced and dispassionate decision.
In my view the referee made a vey hasty decision, one which he may in hindsight regret.
You should have a full understanding of the situation, before making a far reaching decision.

Aye. In fact I think the FA should allow a selected panel from this forum to officiate all future City games so we actually finally get the standard of refereeing we want.

I haven't seen it but I'm going to make a prediction that Preston forums will say it wasn't, Wigan will say it was and neutral forums will probably give a fair reflection of whether or not the ref got it right.

Bobby Madden was a disgrace today.

How is it okay to come into a game with preconceived nonsense like "it can't be a red because the season's only just started", which is about the only defence he can offer for not sending off Ravenhill.

You can't just make up rules.

It isn't a case of "Oh, it's the first tackle, it's not a yellow/it's too early for a red" - point that out in the rulebook, Madden.

Pathetic performance, and lost control at the end due to his ineffective arbitration.

I agree with all of this post except the last line the scuffle at be end was poor discipline which has lost us a player for three matches

Here's the FA Rules as stipulated in the FA Laws Of The Game:

    Law 12 -
    • Using excessive force is when a player exceeds the necessary use of force and endangers the safety of an opponent and must be sent off
Quite clearly, he HAS used excessive force and HAS endangered an opponent - hence the double leg break!!

    End of!!
