I can confirm those remarks were taken completely out of context. Callum is a player who would have benefitted greatly from the complete changearound in how the club seem to be doing things now. The players brought in would have complemented his game well.

I'm not suggesting his words were said in a negative way towards the club, but it certainly sounded like he wasn't a fan of the then manager.

Nobody was a fan of his. Speaking to the guy in question paints a different picture of what actually happened that day, he's a genuinely nice guy who unfortunately had to see his lad play at the club at a time when the club was a complete clusterfuck. If he was signing for us now you'd see a completely different player.

I agree. Not one single player looked like they knew what they were doing. A good majority of fans were turning up thinking it can’t get worse surely and they were wrong. We couldn’t win a match and worse still we had no idea how to win. Adams was clueless, he wanted to play a certain way without the players that could. That was down to recruitment.
The difference this season is we have a plan the MH plan on how he wants to shape the team, and is bringing in players who can play the way he wants to play. Plus other considerations, like experience at a higher level, youth and balance of the team and squad. The added ingredient of character.

Circumstance can dictate how successful a player is with a club keV. Imagine Gary Jones signing for us in the last four year shitshow. Would probably have been remembered as yet another one of those journeymen we sign that does nothing.

Completely agree, his confidence looked completely shot under Adams. Which is why I don't see him ending up at Morecambe, even if the rumour they are interested is true.

Can’t see that happening, Jones would have banged there heads together and probably Del Boys.

Four Managers (Five if you include the Peterborough spell) couldn't get the best out of him. When does the player take responsibility for his performances?

It can't keep being the Manager's fault. The player is the constant in the equation.

You hit the nail on the head earlier…”with good players around him”. He will never be the centrepiece of a team on his own.

I agree. He's better than he's shown but if that continues in the same vein, for another season or two, he probably won't be a professional footballer any more.

I actually think the best I've seen of him was under Bowyer when he played the 'Watt' role as the QB, directing play.

Football is very position specific. Its why Sutton gets moved from position to position because clubs have struggled to work out what he does well. Every player has a skillset that denotes a specific position in a specific team will see you get the best out of him or her. When you're asking players to fulfill roles not realising that potential or the players around them are being asked the to do the same we end up with the mess weve had for years. Now I'm not saying Cooke was a world beater but his stats in the right line would see a better player than we saw for the time he was here.

If I remember correctly, Cooke told McCall he wanted to play further forward but he hasn't delivered the end result as a No. 10. Maybe Cooke needs to revisit the DM role, where he can take the ball off the back four and bring his passing into play.

Cooke is an enigma to me. He is a talented player at this level who can be a very influential player in the right role. I agree with @HUDDERSSBANTAM@HUDDERSSBANTAM that he played his best under Bowyer when he was given more licence and had a more roving role. Under Adams however, he never had that freedom and his frustration was clear to see. I was expecting to see a revitalised Cooke under Hughes but that only happened fleetingly imo. I'm sure Hughes would recognise that he was a capable player and should thrive at this level with the proper coaching. But when it came to the crunch, Hughes chose to release him rather than offer him a new contract. Don't you find that puzzling?

I remember watching the away game against Vale l, on Sky. They brought up L2 stats for most chances created. Cooke was top, by a mile.

    He has talent. No doubt.
