Like everyone has said there is a question mark over his fitness. Hopefully, we have taken that into consideration but hopefully the back room staff can keep him fit. When he is fit, he is just great on the pitch

We can get 2. If we are going into the season relying on Angol as a first choice we are in for another long season.

Yes, happy with that so long as we aren't left in the crazy position of having only Cook to rely on when Angol is out. I'm sure we're all thinking the same.

All the peripheral forwards we seem to have had this season were useless, but if we can retain Angol and Cook a young loanee forward and another might just do us.

I hope the next 1903 breaking news, is that we’ve signed a new head physio.

Agree. Assuming Cook stays, and with Angol able to play wide in a 3 as well as centrally, we really just need 1 quality striker to replace the combination of Elliot, Delfouneso and Robinson. That should be entirely do-able.

If you add Lavery into that group of exiting players, you really need four to compete for two places. it allows different combinations and cover for injury/loss of form and a host of other factors which impact on players performances.

I think Cook will leave us this summer, paving the way for a couple of younger more mobile strikers

Yeah I agree with that. It was just the expectation that Angol might be 4th choice. That would be some forward line if it were true.

I'm assuming it's more of a clause whereby if he plays a set amount of games the extension will automatically be triggered.

The T&A are reporting that the option is in the club's favour.

Sounds like a win win for the club then and something we haven't mentioned is probably Angols desire to stay.

I know with his injuries the offers might not flood in but he could have hung around for a month or two weighing up whatever came in so imo it's a positive that he didn't hang around in accepting.

Angol is a good signing, managed correctly like Hughes is doing not having him chase after lost cause balls he should last more than a third of the season.
Angol is good in the last third, good at turning defenders either passing in players or having an attempt at goal. We don’t want him chasing a long ball over the defenders that’s when he is more likely to injure himself. Hughes knows this and sets the style of play to best fit Angol’s abilities.
We played excellent football against Sutton, you would keep 70% of that team and build on that with some more quality.

If he can play 30+ games somehow it’ll be decent business imo, maybe we need to make sure he has lighter training sessions or doesn’t play Tuesday night games and cup games like Wes Hoolahan at Cambridge. He’s got the natural talent and experience so it’s about getting him through as many games as possible, it’s unrealistic to expect 40+ games out of him he’ll just break down again.

Realistically we can probably hope for one other quality striker, two or 3 is unrealistic when you consider decent strikers aren’t going to be willing to spend large chunks on a league 2 bench and Hughes also seems to favour 4/2/3/1 type formations. Then a young prospect and we should be good to go. We need more goals from the 3 behind as much as getting a striker to do all the scoring.

Interesting how we have an option in our favour as well, it won’t be possible with every player but hopefully where possible we can be smarter with contract negotiations.

I can’t see Cook staying if I’m honest. He hasn’t improved under Hughes at all and I think he’ll know he won’t be first choice next year. He could probably get a 2 year contract elsewhere. Let him stay as a squad member getting the last 15 minutes, but he’ll want more as he’s already stated he hates not starting matches.

With injuries and a sporadic score ratio, 34 in 149 games across 7 seasons, I'm not sure Angol is the type of player that would be first choice but compliment a forward line.

The last time he managed over 1/2 dozen goals in a season was Mansfield in 17/18 with 9 from 29 despite only 4 from 26 in 19/20 at Orient. He's been decent on the eye but in a struggling team....

It's not a criticism of the resigning but a cautious tale of where the bar lies.

He’s just not mobile enough, something one is born with. Last 15mins against a tiring defence if chasing a game fair enough….. as a starter … not for me.

I certainly think he will be made available and wouldn't be surprised to see him go, if he can get himself a decent deal elsewhere.

Or he can sit out the remainder of his contract being a bench warmer at the best. Don’t get me wrong I like the fella but that type of centre forward doesn’t sit easy in the modern high tempo game?
