I said towards the end of last season and again this that the vast majority of last year's team were nowhere near the quality needed for a promotion side and yet here we are with most of them still playing. The problem is, and it's been the case for most of the sixty years I've watched City, that the club isn't run by football people, and it's more true now than ever. That's the reason we're continually taken for a ride with transfers. We're as naive as hell, and sign players that the whole football world knows to be injury prone or simply hopeless. Until we're run by people who know the football business we've no chance. I suspect this is what Adams now realises.

Not sure that would be the case mate, if he did get rid of Adam's which I personally think is ridiculous and we shouldn't even be discussing him going.
He may be able to fool Rupp (who couldn't with regards football) on taking over from Julian he extended Stuarts contract and then sacked him, doing a similar thing with Trueman & Sellars believing the were the best thing since sliced bread extending their contracts and sacking them, knowing that he had spoken to both Morecombe and Adams with regards the managers job at Valley Parade.
And many wondered why Sellars was so bitter, who wouldn't be finding out the guy who was blowing up your arse was setting up a deal to bring a Derek Adams to the club they were managing at the time.

I think it's part of his philosophy to be positive after a game however poor the performance. It can easily make him sound ridiculous though. And I agree, he one strange hombre for sure.

Don't get me wrong Dave it would be more than foolish to get rid of him the club needs stability
But Mr Adams needs to concentrate on the here and now and the on pitch decline 1 win in nine I think you said
Rest assured something is not quite right behind the scenes (no surprise there) and if we are bottom half at Christmas
Mr Sparks has already shown he is ruthless enough to react
Any replacement however is a totally different thread

Don't forget that he has also got rid of Turnbull, a man he called 'one of our best signings'. at then end of the January window.

Jose Mourinho on Roma's 6-1 defeat at Bodo/Glimt

"I decided to play with this line-up, so the responsibility is mine,

"I did it with good intentions, to give an opportunity to those who work hard and to rotate the squad on a synthetic pitch in cold weather.

"I never disguised the fact we were a squad with real limitations. We have 13 players who represent one team, the others are on a different level.

Does it sound a bit like the situation here we have a core of 13 players who the manager rates and then the rest aren't anywhere near good enough now I'm not saying this is a good thing for Mourinho to say in public but I am saying it's not necessarily a negative that Adams has decided who he thinks has the ability and those he doesn't

People are criticising him for not rotating the squad and being stubborn but if he believes those squad players aren't up to it then I think he's probably doing the right thing but I guess we all have an opinion on some of those fringe players and who might be able to do a job

Food for thought though dropping those who aren't performing for worse players just isn't a good idea

He does come out with a lot of bollocks at times but as I said before he is a bit of a weird one
Seems to have the opinion that us fans have no eyes, no memories - he just plays whatever track he feels like on any given day.

Hope we at least put on a performance tomorrow that looks like we know what we are doing, we are organised and motivated - surely that is not too much to ask from a manager who has done it and knows what needs to happen?

You say the club hasn't been run by football people for most of the 60 years you have watching. I'm not sure what you mean. There is barely a football club that is run by football people. The new owners of Newcastle for example.

Mark Lawn has watched City since 1965, was he not a football person then?

Agree with your point. I would go further. My recollection is that Julian Rhodes started to watch City when he was at school. Jack Tordoff was a life long supporter. Even Richmond had been involved with Scarborough FC for a couple of years before he took over City. I think there needs to be some explanation as to what the term football people actually means.

    Thanks Dave
Pretty conclusive that Mr Adams has had his say on new signings
Wonder what his next excuse will be and who else is to blame

I mean people who by whatever means are well-versed in the intricacies of running a successful football club, who know how to select the right manager, who understand how to recruit the right players at the right time, who have good contacts in the game or employ people who have, who can run a successful business model and who have the ambition and nous to succeed. Such qualities are in very short supply on this side of the Pennines but are to be found in abundance in Lancashire which has a football heritage to rival anywhere. Just look at the recent success, despite various kinds of adversity, of Accrington, Fleetwood, Morecambe, Blackpool, Fylde, Burnley, Preston, Blackburn and last year Bolton. You could even include Barrow. All places much smaller than Bradford but with the dynamism, experience and know-how to succeed.

Okay if we take your analysis and say in many ways the examples you state are doing relatively well and some are punching above their weight.
However are Blackburn run by ‘football’ people? The Venkeys are Indian poultry multimillionaires, are they ‘football people’?
Blackpool’s owner is an international banker. Not sure he has a history as a ‘football person’.
Burnley chairman Alan Pace, is a former Wall Street financier leading the US consortium ALK Capital that bought the club. It has been suggested the club is now approximately £90m worse off, with interest to pay.
Fylde are in the sixth tier!
Fleetwood who l agree are punching over their weight are owned by someone who is a Utility service owner. Unsurprisingly running into debt https://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/sport/football/fleetwood-town-post-losses-ps6m-latest-financial-accounts-club-remains-dependent-owner-andy-pilley-2532725
Not sure this is the sort of owner we need, “Fleetwood Town owner Andy Pilley appeared in court on Wednesday to face fraud and money laundering charges relating to his energy company”. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-10017713/Fleetwood-Town-owner-Andy-Pilley-appears-court-alleged-fraud-money-laundering-charges.html
Looks like Morecambe owners are more focused on Rugby Union and would sell. https://www.worcesternews.co.uk/sport/17670859.morecambe-fc-owners-no-rush-sell-club/
Add to that list Wigan who are run by a Bahrain based group.
You left out Macclesfield and Bury, both gone to the wall. Stockport County were regular opponents, but dropped out of the league.
Yes l agree most are successful businessmen, but then so is Rupp.
