I don’t see how else the manager could’ve played it last night. All 10 players brought in deserved minutes on the pitch and should’ve been able to give an u21 side a better game. It’s down to those players to to leave a positive impression in the mind of Adams, even if the whole team seem disconnected. It’s tough on the youngsters, but their lack of loan movement to the NL tends to add weight to Adams theory that they aren’t quite ready to influence first team football.

It is telling that we conceded all three in the second half, That along with the number of strain injuries leads to the question of the quality of fitness training and medical care in the backroom,

So basically, he needs longer to polish a few turds and maybe next year will be our year...?

Not even hindsight. Throughout the summer, the general consensus amongst fans was 'we need more quality up front'. I think everyone expected a decent signing/loan in the latter stages of the window.

I actually don't think we're that far away. Stick Songo'o in the middle, add a quality striker in place of Gillead, and I think we'd be fine.

Stats show we are competing up to the final third. But we have the most lacklustre goal threat i can remember.

A lot of clubs in our division acquired Premier league or championship loans yet we have none, There has been some good loans at other clubs that have helped them but we seem not interested relying on unwanted older Pros that other clubs are unloading

So frustrating. Under T&S we created little, we looked disjointed in our approach play, but we were fairly clinical from what little created.

Now, we do look better in possession, we create more, but we're so much more wasteful.

The result is not important here as the Man Utd under 21s demolished Salford last season 6-0.
Its the fact that we had players deemed 1st team shoe ins been turned over and also the way we played.
Very timid and at 0-0 at half time to go in, listen to the managers team talk, then come out and lose 3 goals, doesn't fill me with confidence, and believe me Adams needs the fans confidence because its draining away like a summer storm.
On this recent bad run in the league, we've been level away at Orient and Salford and been beaten by a more drilled and improved team in both.
We were level against 10 men against Walsall and playing well, then 2nd half fell away.
Barrow is the only game when we've scored 2nd half then wound our game back in to save us from losing.
    Very conservative football.
For me in the league we have this season and the expectation of our supporters whipped up by Delboy Sparks, this team and manager are crumbling under the weight of the size of the club and task he finds himself in charge of.

I didn't. How did he do? Wouldn't surprise me if he was rusty, but he needs a run of games.

I compared him to Akpan. I think that’s all the info you need :)

Thats how it certainly comes across.

As Simon indicates one or two of their players are local, but their list of root clubs is like a who’s who of European top class teams. Valencia, Real Madrid (?) . Two centre backs who played or were on loan to C C last season. These kids are technically gifted make no bones about it. It’s ok saying they were up against professionals, but by definition these kids are ALSO paid players, up against what we’re basically L2 reserves.

They were good to watch in the second half ….giving a further insight into the potential cream of EU footballing talent.
Many won’t make it with MU but they will certainly earn a good living in the years to come.
    If only!

He wasn’t Akpan or Josh Wright bad but you could tell he hadn’t played much recently.
I said during the Stevenage game, add a decent midfielder and a clinical striker and it’s a good side. Songo’o should have been, could well be, that midfielder

Akpan was far more gifted technically than Songo'o, but lacked in desire and fight which was what we needed at the time.
Songo'o has fight and desire in him but is slow and not as good technically.
Which one would you rather have in league 2.
Im not sticking up for him in any way but im guessing your assessment of the players was more in tuned to how they look the same in appearance rather than qualities.

The thing that disappointed me last night was the apparent lack of fire in our team. We needed to get into their faces, not let them have time on the ball, run all night, want the ball, give the man in possession options and give 110%. IMO we did none of this. In the first half we just knocked the ball around and gave them time to keep their defensive cover and then in the second half, presumably after the youngsters had been given a bit of a rocket and told to get out there and show what they were about, were taken apart.

Especially as they were kids, as you say in their faces no time to dwell on the ball, fair but hard challenges, proper mens football.

Not really. Although they do both have a similar physique, I think they both don’t use it to their advantage. I haven’t seen anything from Songo’o yet, to show me he’s got desire and fight. I certainly didn’t see him last night at 1-0, 2-0 down, taking the game by the scruff of the neck and showing his younger more inexperienced teammates, and the younger inexperienced opposition, how to get stuck in an raise the level. Same with Akpan, who only turned his technical gift on when he was playing against his former club Burton.

Perhaps he’s unfit after his injury, but the ninety minutes he played last night shows he can get through a game unscathed. The problem was, he looked like he couldn’t be arsed, which DA seemed to have noticed, meaning that he’s another wasted signing sitting on the bench.
