See, we can make all kinds of redundant statements, but these are all personal preference.

Some would tell you "A goalkeeper should never be captain", but Manuel Neuer has disproven that for years winning the top competitions in international and domestic football.

Some would tell you "The best way to success is to spend money", but we know for a fact that's not the case at this level - see Phil Parkinson.

Some would tell you "A manager shouldn't be a friend to the players", but Jurgen Klopp has blown that out of the water with Liverpool.

These quoted, stock phrases simply aren't facts. Stuart failed because for a ton of reasons; that he was pally with the players just isn't a critical flaw in his approach.

What was it then and what are these “tons of reasons”

If you want me to form an opinion based on your comment you need to quote more than stock phrases as you put it.

Then compare his record say with Adams record perhaps?

The main reason Stuart failed is probably the fact he tried to assemble the cheapest, youngest squad possible and refused to sign players in positions that needed reinforcing.

Last season we debuted a variety of 18 year olds, most of who weren't ready for regular first team football, but Stuart's squad was built on them. We were told numerous times that we were miles under budget and Stuart could have spent that money, but he continually refused to, citing free agents' lack of fitness and complaining that he was unable to identify the right players.

The club then reacted by hiring Turnbull, but it was much too late for Stuart, whose band of cheapies were struggling badly at the wrong end of the table.

That's all documented, and much more likely to be a problem than being friendly. For me, it doesn't matter if a manager is friendly, unfriendly, standoffish, waves his arms like an idiot on the sidelines, stands deadly still and doesn't move, shouts, doesn't shout, all of those sorts of managers have been successful in football so we know for sure it's not any of those attributes that cause catastrophic failure.

It’s one of the reasons I stopped posting on here. Imagine sitting in the pub with your mates and shutting down every opinion because your peers are being negative and don’t have the same footballing credentials as the manager. Seriously, just f off. Say what you want and if hindsight proves you wrong then so be it, it’s all part of the fun.

Too many fence-sitting fannies on here.

Pretty straight forward stuff and all sounds plausible. Just one point, when you say “well documented”, you don’t mean on this forum do you?

I believe the issue was the comparison between Stuart and Adams. Can’t see that being made. Finally it’s clear Stuart wanted to be “one of the lads”, that was made clear in his waffling interviews from memory. I don’t see Adams being like that, which I don’t think anyone can deny?

Which Adams is fully aware of!

I will say it again....you are judging our squad on paper and writing it off before a ball is kicked. Morecambes squad on paper didnt look good enough for promotion.

Interested to know whose transfer activity has impressed you the most? Who is setting the benchmark?

Bowyer has signed two players for Salford. Youd be having kittens if we had only signed two by June 30th.

Orient and Mansfield hardly pulling up trees yet you have waxed lyrical about them previously.

Sot on, I always thought Stuart's stunt on the pre-season tour of Germany was rank unprofessionalism. I love Stuart to bits, but as a "professional" football manager he doesn't hold a candle to Parky who was a "proper" football manager.

No, the powers that be at City said several times Stuart had money to play with and hadn't used his budget.

I'm certainly not comparing Stuart to Adams. They seem completely different, what I'm saying is the style doesn't matter; it's substance that matters.

So what’s the substance, in either case. I have been a manager for many many years. Managers always have a boss, I had a few .I always wanted a boss that was firm and fair, as opposed to one who wanted to be my best friend.

Stuart , like it or not was the latter, the substantial difference between the two , to me, is I would happily sit in the Adams camp. That’s substance and style all rolled into one, in my opinion.

You are saying with evidence , what I spoke of earlier. It was poor, falling over whilst drunk on car roofs isn’t a good look either?

Stuart had decent players for this level, He just had little idea how to use them to the best

Can't agree with that, I'm afraid. He had a few good players, but the squad was really weak.

We were relying on Wood (having an off-season), Evans (past his best), Clarke (past his best), Donaldson (WAY past his best and useless up front), Zeli (useless full stop), Samuels (he played 12 times), DMH (he played 11 times), BRE (he played 10 times) and Kurtis Guthrie (he played 8 times).

Wood aside, tell me that isn't a list of very poor L2 players.

Then factor in the number of 18 year olds who weren't ready and were getting rushed into the team (even if it meant long term injury in the case of Staunton), and I'm afraid I'm not having it.

That was a piss poor squad worthy of relegation trouble.
