62-63 is an odd one. Most of the ones in the 70's are very....70s. Surridge didn't inspire, and Nike made some off the wall weird ones (from their stock selection). I think Avec have done pretty well. I like the Admiral and Bukta shirts the best. Maybe its because of the Subbuteo set I had, but I think black shorts are a must.

My favorite has always been the 1978/79 Admiral kit

The badge is very 70s! Because my first shirt was the 85-87 one, I've always liked the boars head badge. Wonder what made us switch back to the one (we currently use) in 91? Especially as Front Runner were only ever given one shirt. And what a shirt it was! Going for big money on Ebay, and the blue away one is on my collection bucketlist.

Copyright I assume - can't copyright the Boar's Head as it is from the Civic crest.

How do you define a kit as “having purpose”?

I think a "purposeful" kit has an identity. Although they didn't know it, Avec produced a kit this season which will be completely forgotten due to our disappointing season. Umbro, although they didn't know it, produced one of England's most iconic shirts in 1966. Now whenever Umbro, or Nike or whoever makes England's kit now, want to evoke the feel good factor and issue a real rally cry for a tournament, all they have to do it model it on the shirt that won us the World Cup. I think this is what Sparks is going for, and he's told Avec to make a shirt with a purpose - that purpose being to recall times of victories/promotion/cup wins past, and get the fans onboard and feeling hopeful this new coming season. All marketing bs of course, but that's what he's paid for.

Polite question for those that might be a bit older...74-84, any idea why White was the lead colour on most kits?

It wasn't a serious post. I think it's a bit mad to talk about kits showing signs of intent, hence my dry remark.

Yeah, but after I typed my response, I think it makes sense. I mean - look at the farce that Rahic came up with. Certainly showed his intent. Mind you, I was looking at Wolves away kit yesterday, and thought exactly the same!

Yep, you made some good points. Still would rather see the players showing the intent rather than the shirt though ;)

Didn't somebody on here a about 2 or 3 years ago design a city shirt in claret&amber stripes with Lister mills in the back ground of the shirt
If I remember correctly it was well received but the new shirt was already in manufacturing and could not be changed
Could this be the one or is my age playing tricks on me

You remember rightly -- @Bigrod@Bigrod had the pic:

I would love to see that as our main kit. Indeed I would even go as far as buying the shirt!

Took a few views to see the Chimney ! Nice kit. Would work well with a pair of levi 501's (not sure about a pair of Levi Suttons though.

I found it on forum on Facebook and asked the lad who posted it if he'd give me permission to post it on Bantam Talk as it was pretty unique.

Why? What's wrong with the 79 kit?
