"Well despite all that" is not the greatest retort to my post and then to go off on a tangent.

For the record, Dec to March was a "success" from a low base, from the management duo, playing personal and RS.

His drive and motivation will not alone be rewarded without a plan, structure and backing.

 

It seems he is the only person looking to put a structure in place, and there's no real plan outside of Sparks just making it work.

 

Let's hope the masterplan works then!

The board appoints a chief executive and then appoints all the leadership team and direct reports too so the chief exec basically makes no decisions, right......

A blind man could have seen most of the things that needed doing. Getting rid of those players was obvious. Appointing a recruitment manager, obvious, getting the right recruitment manager, harder, improving the fitness, no brainier, appointing someone to bring in more revenue, needed doing. I can go on, Sparks is starting from the lowest of low bases, there will have been Conference clubs or lower better run than City, I’ll see where the club is in 12 months and beyond before I start getting excited.

 

A business turning over £600m a year and worth £3bn is very different to City who are about 1% of that. It’s like comparing B&Q to McCann’s DIY.

I think it would be much more sensible to have two, personally, one focussed on football, the other on business. Or we could just pretend Sparks is an expert on and off the footy field like we are doing. That will deffo work.

 

And it took Sparks to do it. So therefore he’s already an improvement on the previous and is heading in the right direction. Correct?
Maybe jury is still out until we’ve had the build up to next season to see what other progression has been made. He’s basically starting from scratch all over again, but this time with a bit more experience.

Worked well for Wigan appointing Dave Whelan's grandson didn't it !!! Two relegations and almost liquidated. My jury is out on Sparks, so far all I have heard is bluff and bluster and seen very little constructive action. Just talk. He's 29, as he loves to tell us, and there is very very little precedent in business of such young and inexperienced CEOs being successful outside of dotcom/ social media type companies (and car washes).

 

Sparks is 29? I didn’t know that. You’d have thought he would have mentioned it.
Age is a number though, Karen Brady was MD at Birmingham City at 23, Denise Coates was early 30s when she started Bet365, you’ve countless people who have made a success of their own businesses. On the other hand I work with people who have been in the industry for 40+ years and I wouldn’t trust them to run a bath.

Before all the brittle snowflakes coming out I’m 28 and completely agree with you, he’s desperately inexperienced and our clubs hangs in the balance because of it. Yet to see anything good come out of appointing him as CEO but I’m willing to give him a chance.

 

I hope your not suggesting "your just glad to have a club to support", you'll get pelters for it if so.

You're right after 60+ years I couldn't care less who owned or run the club, unfortunately in this day and age some fans want to know if every i has been dotted and every t crossed or have the club posted all the financial details with company house for fans to dissect, so we don't need to know everything and would it change things if we did.
