Yup ... Nige likes that but made in France which he doesn't like!

But we have control of our borders ... apart from that inconvenient land border with EU27 on the island of Ireland

And we can stop immigration ... except when we need Jonny Foreigner to staff our hospitals and care homes, to pick our fruit and veg in the fields and serve us food and drink in our hotels and restaurants and to help us to repatriate asylum seekers.

And of course we have given sovereignty back to our politicians in our own Houses of Parliament ... except of course when our Govt doesn't want them to vote on the most important issue of our time.

Other than that, it's all hunky dory.

I hope it is worth the risk. It's not just leaving the EU that is at stake, it is having repercussions onto all sorts of issues for Britain internally that were blatantly obvious to anyone caring to look. We are more divided than ever.

Having said all this, i voted remain, but having lost i might not be happy but i will accept the result. Let the leavers run with it and time will prove if they were right or not. And if not there will hopefully be massive ramifications for those that painted a false picture of what it would all be like to the voting public (they'll likely be still on the after dinner circuit with a massive pension). They can explain this to the future generations that might carry the can. If they are right and life improves significantly over and above how it currently is for normal working people then, the remainers will need to give credit where it is due.

The lack of acceptance and respect being shown to the results of two significant referendum results, i find pretty incredible really. I think it proves that the threshold % required to get a referendum through should be set higher, as many can just not accept it when it goes against their view.

I don’t agree with the result, I wanted to stay in the EU, however, I had hoped that the result would be accepted and everyone would work towards making our departure from the EU as smooth and worthwhile as possible.

Sadly, we have made no progress since the vote or the triggering of article 50 (or whatever number it was) and this is due to a complete lack of respevt shown to the result/decision by so many politicians. Now we’re stuck in a strange rut where nobody seems to have a clue what is happening. It’s embarrassing.

The trouble is in this subject the country is split down the middle including the political parties.
Everybody has a different view of how we proceed. I believe the only way that will be acceptable to Parliament is us staying in the custom uuion That will mean we will have to follow all the rules without any say. We would have been better staying in and trying to change things

We tried that many times over many years ending with Cameron's massive fail.

If we stay in the customs union or any lite derivative of, we cannot negotiate trade deals outside the union so would negate one of the main reasons for leaving.

Then that will not be Brexit, Cameron stated quite categorically a vote to leave would mean being out of the "single market and the customs union", yet when the vote goes against parliament they want to move the goal posts, even the un-elected House of Lords seem to have more on a say then the British electorate.

I was for remaining but respect the vote. But as I say I think the only way a bill will be passed is by staying in the custom union. And if we had an election I think the situation would be the same

That's very true. But then the fundamental question needs addressing. Why does the UK need to negotiate its own trade deals when the EU already has over 60 bilateral trade agreements - inc with the likes of Japan, Canada, N Zealand and S Korea - and are currently in the early process of negotiations with China and Australia? We trade less under the current trade agreements than other EU countries (and by a long way compared to Germany!) and yet we somehow believe that (1) we are capable of negotiating advantageous new trade deals with the likes of India and the US better than the EU can and (2) we are capable of turning around our abysmal export practices to be able to sell more than currently. It defies logic.

Oh yes, and once we leave the EU, our biggest export earner, the City's financial services ( which includes Chinese, Swiss, American, German, French, Spanish, Indian, Australian, Canadian, Japanese etc banks currently based in London) will find it easier to trade with Europe by being based in one of the EU27 countries rather than London itself.

The smart move would be to stay in the customs union at least until leaving settles down and use our time on other leaving matters, We can at a later date of course look at it again, The single market is a different matter, We should leave it and negotiate the best deal we can thus not liable for a large financial payment each year of many billions of pounds and exempt from freedom of movement laws
