January 2021 Transfer Window

As far as ex players are concerned, I would
expect our move to a more professional
recruitment policy would ensure we don't
fall into the old BCFC ways of bringing back
ex players who were only so so and leaving
fans suitably unimpressed.

Turnbull, I hope, will have a complete dossier
on players which would include past clubs and
why they left etc, so excluding any recommendation
of re-signing them. Who we sign should demonstrate
how good a move bringing Turnbull has been and
hopefully it will become a success all round!

 

Well the club are certainly on it in identifying targets. Hopefully one of our top targets lands. I know for a fact we have been active in lodging a cash bid for a player so far this window. We were knocked back but hopefully it is a statement of intent for the rest of the window and we move on to the next target on the list. Won't be disclosing the source or naming the player as I'm not one of those ITK posters and its not my thing, but is is very promising that there could be some interesting activity this month if this bid I know of is anything to go by.

This wasn't a pie in the sky bid, like the Kieffer Moore talk of years ago - talk merely to appease the fans, it was a realistic, six-figure bid, for a player that was a realistic target.

I wasn't happy at first when it was announces but the more I thought about it the more I camer around. Even purely from a cynical point of view, a new manager was on a hiding to nothing on the back of the run we are having... Hurst has a reputation for being boring and so he could play exactly the same team in exactly the same formation but if suddenly the wonder goals dry up and we start dropping points Sparks will be blamed. At least this way it gives T&S the chance to lose a few games to take the pressure off an incoming manager (or, even better, prove themselves to actually be the solution to our problems)

 

I do want to as everyone loves a bit of transfer excitement don't they, but I was asked not to say anything!

Its great to know we are tabling cash bids again though, so I thought it was at least posting that much.

 

Do transfer fees count towards the cap? Or not? Anyone know?

 

Pretty sure they don't.

 

Are you able to tell us what position? I'm assuming a six figure bid at our level must be for a striker or possibly a winger.

It was my understanding it was a salary cap in each division, so the fee wouldn't count. However, I stand corrected if wrong, as not 100 % sure.

I had a read after asking the question and it seems it’s any fee paid to player/agent? So you’d expect signing on fees and agent fees to be included? Which may he fairly high for a player if we do pay 6 figures.

 

Just done a quick Google search. The page pulled up is from Portsmouth but it answers a few FAQ and suggests the transfer fee doesnt count. Also that players under 21 are exempt. Didn't know that.

it also says there is no limit on the wages offered per player but that the average across the squad must come down to be in line with the specified amount.

Maybe having the likes of DMH here on peanuts isn't such a bad thing afterall if it drags that average down!

 

This player in question I know of isn't on as much p/w as you'd expect really, given his goalscoring record - he's a player on the up, not a heavy earner dropping from the Championship etc. It would have been a potentially doable deal....but deal was knocked back.

But yeah, absolutely, if agents fees and signing on fees are included its gonna make it difficult to sign players who are already earning plenty above the cap, esp those from higher divisions.

 

And how have you got this info? I always remember that transfer windows are a bit like Instagram posts on Xmas day. All about the likes!

 

I assume it will be a player from non league if it was a realistic target.
