We're talking about formations. Obviously if there are injuries changes have to be made. But not to the formation unless absolutely necessary.

I'll make a prediction now, that we don't stick with 442, we may not even play that system in the next game. Stuart and Kenny will argue that we played 442 because of the way Mansfield set themselves up. I'm not that bothered about us changing our system from time to time as long as we play each player in a position that they are comfortable with so they can perform to the level we need them to.

I don't think one win sorts everything out in the same way I don't think one loss is the end of the world. I criticise when we play poorly and I give credit when it's deserved. That's kind of how it works for me.

This all or nothing stuff is stupid.

Those that made their minds up based on recruitment or preseason sentiment, let's reassess already. Decent start.

Exactly. The Harrogate game showed what can happen when players are played out of position, Evans and Sutton being asked to play unfamiliar roles thus negating the effectiveness of two players who had started the season well in Clarke and Watt. This then put pressure on everyone else especially our full backs. Just by asking Evans and Sutton to try and do something not attributed to their best assets you effectively shut down the whole team.
Yesterday, either by good management or force of hand by injuries, players actually looked comfortable in their roles albeit against poor opposition. Its no coincidence that everyone had a decent game yesterday primarily because we weren't carrying any passengers on the pitch.
Thats why you stick with something your players can work with.

Not a word from our manager, very childish and not a good idea.

The Harrogate game was more about how they played than us. Yes we lacked a bit of width on this occasion but Harrogate work rate of the ball closings us down for 90 minutes not giving us a minute. Forcing our wing backs deep was the reason for the result. Not the formation in my opinion.
We played some good stuff against Stevenage with a different formation and got a good result

I seem to remember that some people were saying that based on recruitment and owners, that Mansfield were going to be serious promotion contenders as would Bolton (beaten by Oldham at home yesterday), Salford were also seen as virtual certs for promotion! All are having a poor or mediocre start to the season.
To put it bluntly, it is far too early to make absolute predictions. Monday was a terrible shock to the system, but the comfortable win yesterday was a good counterbalance.
Two records gone in two games, i.e. longest unbeaten home run and a year without an away win!
Personally I think that around thirteen games in, as a good indicator as to how things are likely to pan out.

The problems on Monday night were twofold. Not only was it the wrong formation to counteract Harrogate, we also had too many players asked to play in positions they are neither comfortable or confident in. Take nothing away from Harrogate, they were better than us all over the park but that's the risk you take when you put out a team of square pegs in round holes.

Good point mate. Yes we had one or two players out of position but we are not giving Harrogate enough credit, yes they are a small town club but so are Burnley.
Harrogate Town are a well drilled side and the bulk of that team together for some time, and it showed.

This is bang on. On Monday we had a left sided midfielder available and had put in a good performance in the EFL trophy yet was overlooked in favour of a right sided midfielder now out for two weeks injured. No surprise we looked balanced yesterday, due to a system that gave the players confidence.

Agree with this but I don't think we will come up against many defences as benevolent as the one we met yesterday.

The worry for me is that it was more by accident than design; I'm not convinced Stuart would have chosen that formation or line-up had we not had the injuries we had.

The Harrogate game was so disappointing because we weren't
at the game.No energy and no ideas.I waited for us to start
competing but it never happened. We had 2/3 decent chances
but never looked as though we would get anything from the
    game,and lets face it,we didn't deserve anything.The total lack
of ideas on the pitch or any indication from the management
that we could do anything to change it set the mood for a first
loss for nearly a year in the league.

That lack lustre display shamed us in my opinion and although
the Mansfield game was the opposite in attitude you have to
ask the question why? If the players can beat Mansfield away
in that way, we should demand more from the players every game.

I don't think it was lack of effort that was the problem on Monday night.

I think most believe they know why, we knew Zeli was out we can only assume DMH was not fit as he couldnt make the bench so up to a point Stuart was limited with regards wide men.
The annoying part was he had chance to change the formation at half time when Evan's was subbed complaining of a tight hamstring, he could see we were second best in every position.
Hopefully yesterdays result and performance will set us up for the Walsall game and a positive result, we then welcome Michael Flynn and his Newport lads tough game but at home it should be winnable at 5pm we could be in the dizzy heights of a play off place.
