they were in a lot closer contact with your average city fan and the results of the sale speak for themselves. Same with yours had R + R not then proceeded to get us relegated and all the shenanigans that followed. to me that erased any good work they did initially. hindsight is a wonderful thing but we were told these guys would take us to the next level and we are now a level below with a worse team, largely through avoidable mistakes.

Roger has a point - in many respects, they have no obligation to care what happens after the point of sale. I get that.

Equally, we're assuming that Rhodes has a care for the fortunes of the club.

I think you misinterpreted my original post. My point really, is simple. His judgement of who he entrusted to run the club last time, was awful. It needs to be better this time.

The Portsmouth example shows what can be done to guarantee further investment by new owners rather than simply relying on their word as the old owners did. As @Faithful Bantam@Faithful Bantam said, JR's judgement should be questioned since this situation could have been avoided had they dealt with the sale differently.

I'm sure Rupp's intentions were to take us forward, unfortunately as we know his partner was not abiding by his side of the agreement, as I have posted he has to be as guilty as Rahic for not knowing what was going on.

I agree, you don't get that rich by being naive so he's definitely not blameless there for sure

Looking at the Sheffield Wednesday mess makes me glad we're not playing high stakes poker with the future if the club.

Buying the stadium hasn't prevented any disastrous outcomes.

Surely that was a stroke of luck? I think my view point as a buyer would be that if I had proof funds and was paying a good price like they did for City and I wouldn't have the previous directors telling me how much I need to invest as a requisite for purchase.

Sheff Wednesday are still a Championship club.

Bradford City have gone to div 2 are backwards.

    I don't understand your point.

I don't get this and i find it easy for some people to say.

Every step of the way it was known that Edin wasn't the money man. That was always clear and it a point Edin made it clear he put all his money in.

If Rupp wanted and wants to take this club forward plus buy assets he can because he can afford too. He can easy afford to LOAN the club 1.5m.

I don't believe his intentions were to take us forward at all. Edin has gone and the excuses are still there!

Rupp is as guilty as Edin for where we are right now.

Pompey wasn't pure luck though, Eisner bought it on the conditions laid down by the 2,300 shareholder members of the Pompey Supporters Trust who had each put a £1,000 in to by it out of admin in 2013

I'm not saying it is lucky that he invested the money I'm suggesting it was lucky finding a buyer who would sign up to a club with conditions for their investment set by a previous owner/custodian.

No. There was no luck involved at all. It was a condition of purchase and explicitly stated in the original sale prospectus provided to all prospective purchasers.

If you’re advising Rupp to loan another £1.5m of his money, his kids’ inheritance, on Bradford City, pop down to Lloyds Bank and ask them for a loan, give them a detailed business plan including how much of your skin you are putting in and how you’ll pay them back. You can pay them back using the profits from the investment in a small business in a poor city with no real income for the foreseeable future, that’s fine.

Once they’ve stopped laughing you‘ll see why Rupp isn’t lending or spending much more than he has to to keep the business alive.

what happens if they don’t fulfil the obligation? Do the previous owners take back control?

That's certainly one way but there are less onerous options. However it was intended to be enforced would be detailed in the S&P agreement

And you would think with it being the supporters trust they were on the ball asking for guarentees with regards future spendong/finance, I'd think the majority of purchases are not done in this manner.

It wasn't just the supporters trust which insisted on the purchase conditions. It was the dozen or so individual shareholders (the presidents as they called themselves!) who owned the majority stake in Pompey who specified the purchase conditions.

The majority of purchases are between businesses, however as you point out PST were able to negotiate terms. The assertion by the poster that it was pure luck is nonsense.
