But some fans will cough up, I suppose. So the Premier League will feel it’s justified.

I don't understand why anyone thinks that's expensive. The cheapest Premier League season ticket is £320 a season so that's almost £17 a ticket. The cheapest of the most expensive season tickets is £513 so £27

What if you've already bought a season ticket and now have to pay again?

    This.

I read an article on the been where Neville ripped the idea to shreds.

They live in a different dimension to the rest of us, I'm afraid, consumed by greed.

Surely they will do some sort of refunds like they did for last season

I don't know about other clubs but United cancelled the renewal deadline so you didn't have to pay for your season ticket but wouldn't lose it. And anyone who did pay they have promised refunds for any match played in a closed stadium or any match where they aren't given a ticket due to a partial open stadium. Admittedly United may be an outlier as apparently, Woodward was apparently pushing for the PPV price to be closer to £5 and also wanted season ticket holders to get it for free but all the other clubs wanted £15 and no free access so its possible the others have kept the renewal date and won't return the money but I would be surprised if they aren't all refunduing

You charge £10 a game to watch LEAGUE 2 football and with iFollows AWFUL production values. When you compare League 2 per match price for season tickets to the PL one £5 more and getting better coverage for it is hardly out sync with the EFL. The only people losing out are those who wouldn't go to matches anyway and they wouldn't have got to see the matches anyway if COVID wasn't happening.

And this is likely to help the likes of City out. First of all it makes the £10 a match iFollow fee that might put casual fans buying a game seem better value and it might offset some of the massive losses clubs are making which might make it a little easier for them to give to an EFL bailout

League Two football has never been available to watch on Sky or terrestrial TV on a game by game basis.

It's now available for free to season ticket holders because they can't go.

The Premier League want to charge season ticket holders an extra 15 quid, and announced this BEFORE any news on season ticket refunds.

    No, I'm not kidding.

I know you defend the PL no matter what, but this is beyond contemptible. Eat it up if you like; but the reason football is in a lopsided mess in this country is fans being prepared to eat up whatever crap is served at any price.

WHU offered a full refund for any ST prior to the start of the season, however it would not of entitled you to keep the option open for next season.
If you renewed and didn't cancel then you are refunded on a game by game basis a week after the fixture was played. If you were happy to let the refund rollover then the club add 10% in "Club Cash" which you can use for merchandise, food & drinks in the stadium.
On the basis that our cheapest ST is £320 then the pro-rata refund of £16.84 covers the PPV cost

First of all PL games haven't generally been available on a game by game basis. The games that were shown at the end of last season and then the start of this season only really helped the broadcasters, they weren't paying for these matches (infact due to rebates due to COVID they were adding value to their customers, getting more ad revenue, driving subscriptions and having the clubs pay for the privilege). The broadcasters weren't willing to pay more for the extra matches and were not willing to let the clubs sell their own rights for clubs not covered by TV contract.

And perhaps spend 5 mins googling

Arsenal - Required a partial payment to secure access to the ballot when reduced capacity starts. This is I believe about 10 games worth of matches and if will be refunded pro-rata if you don't get into enough matches to recover that. You can choose not to be in the ballot and take a holiday paying up either the pro-rata amount if full capacity happens this season or you space is kept for next season if it doesn't

Aston Villa - Didn't put season tickets on sale. Everyone is on a 'holiday' period

Brighton - They don't do season tickets, they have rolling 12-month memberships which go from Feb to Feb so they were already paid up before COVID happened. They have had this years membership converted in cash balances which any match they get to attend is deducted from and anything left over will go against next season membership

Burnley - Are already refunding anyone who requests it. or they can wait and get a refund based on how many matches they weren't able to goto at the end of the season

Chelsea - Didn't sell any season tickets

Palace - Sold season tickets but at a discount by the number of games they had at home before the proposed partial reopening. They are then giving credit for games that can't be attended which can be applied to next season. They have also put in place a system where if you don't want to go you can pay for the season ticket but sell it on a match by match basis through the club to get your money back. If you didn't want to renew due to being high-risk they charged £200 to hold the season ticket which would be deducted off next seasons price

Everton - Are refunding ona pro-rata basis

Fulham - Didn't put season tickets on sale

Leicester - Charged a reduced initial payment with ticket prices taken from that for each game they get to go to if the stadium is partially opened. Any leftover of that initial payment will go towards next seasons ticket

Liverpool - Suspended season ticket sales and refunded. Plan to sell them game by game until full stadiums.

Man City - No season tickets. Last seasons season ticket holders will go into a ballot for partial reopening and charged if they are successful

Man Utd - As already mentioned

Newcastle - Didn't sell season tickets

Sheffield United - Didn't sell season tickets

Southampton - Charged full price put allowed it to be paid in instalments and gave them a £35 voucher to be used in the club shop. Are refunding on a pro-rata basis

Spurs - Paid 20% of the season ticket cost. This may be partially refunded in the event of partial stadiums. You an also pay the 20% and skip the ballot and any seats this season if we get full stadiums but reserve your season ticket for next season

    West Ham - See @Interested Bystander@Interested Bystander

Wolves - No season tickets on sale

The only two clubs I can't find any info on are Leeds and West Brom. So there are many who haven't charged, some who have partially charged, others who are refunding (or giving credit against next season) on a game by game basis. Most certainly have something in place

My opinion on how the clubs should have operated? In a single, unilaterally agreed manner. There is no excuse for the Premier League to even begin discussing charging for games on a PPV basis WITHOUT the basics in place. We can pretend there is a good reason that the clubs aren't all operating in the same manner, but I think that's a fundamental that needs to be in place long before this announcement.

The perfect customer for the Premier League is one that sees a grossly overpriced offer that is at heart unfair and thinks it's so great they're prepared to defend the scheme (I say unfair because it's only the games NOT scheduled to be broadcast that will be PPV - and if that's evenly spread across all clubs (fans) in the Premier League, I'll apologise right now and doff my cap because I haven't double-checked it, but I'd be STUNNED if that's the case).

But what's more, the idea it might be acceptable value is laughable. Comparing it to League Two clubs charging £10 a game (to non-season ticket holders) just isn't on. Everybody in England knows the situation with regards how badly clubs are struggling; asking the government for bail outs as it's their fault we can't attend games, asking the Premier League for assistance that it isn't willing to offer, they're not doing that for shits and giggles. It's the future of clubs on the line.

Meanwhile, in the Premier League? £1 billion spent on signings - not necessities - but luxuries. All while laying off staff, furloughing staff, receiving government loans, and, per the Newcastle United Supporter's Trust, charging fans for games they aren't going to.

    It's an utter, utter disgrace.

The LEAST that can be said for this season of turmoil is that transfer fees should have been prohibited, but it wouldn't make any difference; that money wouldn't have been forthcoming for any other reason, including fans, staff, or the benefit of the English football league (leave the initials EFL out of that while considering the level of greed).

I think the acceptance comes from not being surprised/being totally used to the PL acting in this manner; but that doesn't make it right, and frankly I think it's bizarre to defend it.

Guess we won't be agreeing on this one! :OO:

I’m sure the fans of said clubs will pay, after all PL clubs season ticket holders can’t watch games like we can so they’ll be looking to exploit that. All businesses try milk their customers for every penny, sadly football is so commercial now it’s just the way it is. I’d rather pay £25 to watch my club play than Man Utd or anyone else play some mid table fodder for even a fiver so I won’t be bothering. I have a Sky sports subscription already, there’s loads of football every week I don’t need it so much that I’d pay that. It’s nothing like boxing where you pay for a super fight with months of anticipation. After Covid it won’t catch on imo, so much football PPV just isn’t very appealing when you will just be able to watch the same team most likely play the week after on Sky main event or BT sport.

And there lies the reason why IPTV exists.

If they stopped spending billions trying to prevent it and used the savings to bring the price of the packages down IPTV wouldn't even exist.

I remember in the earlier days of the Premier League they did something similar. You could buy a season ticket which would allow you to watch an extra 30 matches or so. It lasted a few seasons and then died a death.

People using illegal streams to watch these games will go up ten fold. By charging they'll have pushed many people into doing it as they'll be even easier to find now.

The Premier league are getting a lot better at blocking IPTV. Forcing people to use VPNs so making it more complicated
