Yer, I agree on the lack of leadership still and it concerns me.

I like a manager who know his captain, maybe even signs a captain to come in when he does. Stuart saw how it was last season and saw the lack of leadership and hasn't addressed it at all. Having O'Donnell as the captain was not a good shout, just choosing one of the lads in the dressing room already.

He needed to bring in a relatively experienced pro even if it was someone that perhaps was in their latter years because their experience would carry them on even if they weren't at the top of their game as a defender or midfielder any more.

My concern is that the lack of leadership will mean we'll have a few more games like tonight because there's no fight or spirit in the senior pros in this lot. So yes we'll win some games and be competitive in others but when it goes wrong it will just fall apart

Unfortunately McCall's City teams have always lacked character/leadership and have had a habit of collapsing like a pack of cards.

The only side that didn't was in 16/17 when we still had the remnants of Parkinson's side.

Players arent daft they will see what we see probably even more.

How many of us now are looking at that squad thinking this lot will finish no better than 10th, I bet its a good percentage.

A player or scout will surely do the same and see the same holes in it that we do.

How do you convince a L1 striker or a player who thinks he's an L1 striker to sign for a team destined for the bottom half of league 2?

Donaldson and vaughan likely signed last year as they thought last years squad was guaranteed promotion, at the very least top 6. Players will drop a division if they think promotion is realistic, a season in the khazi might even improve their value if they knock in 25 goals and get them a big deal elsewhere (see doyle) in the future.

They quickly lose interest when we are scratting around mid table with the likes of cambridge and morecambe

Spot on. The city's a shit hole - yes there's Leeds nearby, but its more expensive and 4th division footballers aren't generally rolling in cash. We have no credible plan for improvement or growth, no leadership at the top, recent years have massively damaged our credibility. We're a directionless club, with no real ambition.

Clubs reputations can be tarnished very quickly. Word gets around. 'Bradford? circus mate, stay well clear'. That's what Rupp and Rahic have done. And its hard to shake.

I think we need to take the Kamara approach to signings. Get some Johnny Foreigner signed up who thinks any city in the UK is like something from Heartbeat or TOWIE, the streets are paved with gold, and all the football is like the Premier League. Should get a few through the doors by Saturday.

So a lot of these other Northern/Midland cities and towns are great......? Have you been to Morecambe, Blackpool, Barrow, Carlisle, Hull, Oldham, Salford, Rochdale, Port Vale, Bolton, Wigan, Scunthorpe....etc? Places like Lincoln are in the ‘middle of nowhere’ (not great if you are a ‘clubbing’ footballer. Yes the ‘Tea Rooms’ of Harrogate are very genteel, but is that really what a footballer wants and the prices of Harrogate property are eye wateringly high!
I am not challenging the rest of your post, just this ‘excuse’ about the state of the city of Bradford.

Granted, but first and foremost a footballer wants to be compensated in line with his expectations, and see some sort of plan for success that might allow him to flourish and grow his career. Give him that, and he'll live on an allotment. My point is, we have nothing to offer. Footballers won't tolerate living in the sort of dump that our city is, because there's no real incentive for them to do so. Not that I want to derail the thread by opening up a debate on the state of the city. Our lack of standing, credibility and plan at the football club is much more of an issue. Word gets around.

There's also an argument that if 4th division footballers aren't generally rolling in cash, Bradford could actually be an attractive proposition for them.

People knew this was coming. That’s the issue. How anyone can’t see that is delusional

Why we had a good win over Bolton who many fancied pre season and played well in parts against Colchester. As well as a full time draw with Doncaster

As I said a virtually all old Industrial cities/town are not very attractive. How many Manchester City/United players live in Beswick, Longsight, Levenshulme, Wythenshawe, Moss Side or Cheetham Hill? Leeds is held up as a city, again how many footballers live in Beeston, Holbeck, Harehills, Wortley, Armley etc. In parts of Bradford MBC, there are some relatively ‘non dump’ areas, Baildon, Eldwick, Harden, parts of Bingley and Shipley. Slightly further afield but still in Bradford MBC are Menston, Burley, Ilkley.
Not disagreeing with you about the state of the club, but trying to say that footballers wont come to Bradford seems to be a little ‘overblown’.

Actually to term it as a ‘defeat’, seems to be a little understated. Thrashing, whipping and utterly embarrassing perhaps could be added?

Do you really think this is simply about a reaction to a defeat?

Players looking at joining a club apart from money look at 2 things, They look for a manager who has a plan and has a style he imposes on the players, They play one way and practice it in training day in and out and put it in to practice bringing in to the club players that suit that style, McCalls way of changing to suit the opposition means that future players see indecision and lack of vision, Then second they talk to other players at the club or who know or have played for the manager and ask if the manager knows what he is doing and is it a happy club,

So you're saying Stuart hasn't got the backing of the changing room? I don't believe that at all. I think Stuart has got a lot of respect within the game, and I don't for one minute think a player is not going to come to Bradford City because of him.
The structure and finances of the club, coupled with our current league and past form over three years, however, could be putting players off.

I think it is more a case of trying to get the right player at the right price to come and play in league two

Not saying that at all read my post as it is, I never mentioned the changing room, But just like most people changing jobs the reputation of the company has a bearing on your decision on the offer to join it,
