Very true, Bobby Charlton, Alan Shearer, Billy Bremner, Nobby Stiles, Bobby Moore, more resent Gary Neville, Paul Merson, Thiery Henry, as you say a top footballer but not always a good manager.

I see Ryan Edmondson has signed on loan for Aberdeen today. I'm slightly disappointed as I think he has been watched a few times from his time in Leeds Youth team by City Management and would have a been a good loan/buy for us. Also a big mate, I believe, of Paudie's. Still we are probably below the SPL at the moment....

 

We had the option last year to sign him on loan, they offered him to us for nowt. That ship has now sailed

 

He finished 3rd, 2nd and 2nd so it was hardly a flash in the pan and then he was found out. Believe he had some strong cup runs too. You say it was easy but there were 10 other managers in the league at the time failed to do so. The reason for my comment was because whoever I was responded to said he had only ever had one good season when he got us to the play-offs and he'd never done it by building his own team. Was just pointing out that's not true

 

Probably?..Don't care what anybody says about the SPL - it is above L1 and L2 in terms of quality and standard, infastrucrure of clubs.

I think you missed/failed to answer the question about who you would rather have appointed.

I would simply say I would invite applications and go through a full review process. I would not make an appointment based on who the fan might cheer for. Agreed it is not a guarantee of success.

But you clearly want a name.

We could have invited Nathan Jones for an interview. At the VERY LEAST we SHOULD have interviewed him...interviewed SOMEONE!. Jones had a bad experience at Stoke but built Luton. He has gone back to Luton and taken them from dead and buried, relegated, to surviving in the Championship.

We took a manager who has never won anything or achieved a single promotion.

Here, for me, is the telling question.

Remove McCalls name from the top of his CV. Do you even have him in for an interview?

If we are being honest with ourselves the answer is a resounding no. We wouldn't let him anywhere near the club and if we appointed him the fans would be in uproar about our clear lack of ambition.

 

When we appointed bowyer (who *has* a promotion under his belt.) my first choice would have been Paul Hurst, who got Shrewsbury into a Playoff L1 side. He went to scunny after McCall got sacked. Pretty sure he is out of a job much like Bowyer.

I have always advocated time to be given a manger. Even for Bowyer. Look at Ole, Klopp and Pep. Took them years to mould the teams into decent sides. In the EFL Anisworth and Parky with us too. How many called for his head when we were 18th?

 

Cant argue with you...there is no guarantee with any appointment but in McCall we have a manager who is, at best, serially mediocre. We know that, the evidence is right there on his CV. Yet many greeted him like the returning messiah on his third appointment at the club.

The point being that many complain about a lack of ambition at the club but applaud an appointment that demonstrates that lack of ambition perfectly.

So...if his name was not at the top of the CV and you looked at his history and (lack of) success would you bring that person in for an interview?

I have asked the question a thousand times (ok a bit of a stretch) on the forum and I never get an answer. Why? Because ultimately even McCalls most rabid fans avoid answering me as they know that his resume does not warrant the job with Bradford City.

Klop, Pepe and even Ole(Not convinced at all) all highlight a plan and a style of play from the off. Bowyer not once highlighted that and should never ever been given the job when we struggled in div 1.

Anisworth and Parky we knew their styles.

McCall worries me because he seems like he wants a million different systems/style but the bottom line is Rhodes. He wants people he can work with but Bowyer had to go. The mistake was we should have appointed him and the second mistake with not getting rid of him in October/November.

 

It must be hard for you @Feats Don't Fail Me Now to hold McCall in such high esteem as a player and a fellow human being (as we all do) and possibly hope he fails, because if it is 3rd time lucky you're in for a hard time, although it look as if you can handle yourself with regards criticism .

 

Success has to be driven from the top, Unfortunately our owner has little interest above selling the club and making a few bob if he can, Until that changes we will just muddle along,
