Just seems odd to write him off so quickly, especially when you think about players who look great on their debut and score and are hailed as brilliant and then fade into obscurity, think Neil Woods ,Lee Power (I know he got ill) and lots more. I am going to keep an open mind until I have seen more, although this may not happen if he does not play. As for Torpey, please no. I may not sleep tonight with that name in my head!!

You could add David (Diddy) Brown, Danny Forrest, Scott Nelson and Luke Medley to the ‘looked great on their debut‘.

Unfortunately this may be one of the biggest worries about his management style.

Tony Adcock can be added to that also , great taken volley on his debut and then nothing after , quite prolific until he joined us

Or even Tony Adcock or Neil Tolson! Lots of examples of both sides of the story. I really want to give Guthrie more of a chance than perhaps a lot of people on here, I think my main worry is that he does not appear to be much different to what we have. A striker with pace would add something different and he is not that player.

He joined Scunthorpe after the first transfer window closed, and only had the tricky Jan window. He was primarily using players he didn’t sign. He often talks about character in players - the Scunny players could have all been not his type. So yes, for me you can’t read loads into his spell there, which was hardly disastrous anyway.

Bradford stint 1 - new to management with the club on its arse.

Look at the bigger picture (and try not be so patronising whilst you’re at it).

Alleluia. Absolutely spot on. Why would people write him off when the guy has barely played 90 minutes for us. Typical of many modern day City fans unfortunately.

That tippy tappy football that you don’t seem to like actually saw us unbeaten at home all season and have an excellent away record. It was amongst the best football seen at VP in the last 10 years.

Don’t agree that he was a lazy appointment. Don’t forget the anarchy in the fan base after he left and all the dross we’ve had since - in and out of the dugout (Collins, Grayson, Hopkin). Stuart was appointed to galvanise us!!

Second stint he had one of the highest win ratios of all time.. so i did think most of the time it did!
but yeah we will see how it goes like you say. From the signings it does look promising though.

spot on there! Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't Stuart get sacked from scunny then end up relegated the same season anyway? To me the players were the actual issue.

Well he's not Kai Brunker bad, where 20 minutes was easily enough time to acknowledge he wasn't anywhere near EFL standard.

But even then people said 'but it's only 20 minutes' - a wafer thin defence that could be applied to you or me, frankly, but never should.

For me, Guthrie came with a particular label, and he lived up to it - he was billed as having talent, not as much as he thinks, and being nonchalant. Given the lad has an ideal frame that players would kill for, the nonchalance is instantly going to piss off City fans.

Doyle got dog's abuse and laughed at from all sides before people started pretending they rated him all along - a narrative Doyle repeatedly shunned with personal tales of how much stick he got at VP.

The cool kids will do the same with Kurtis - he's not a City striker in a million years, but should he strike it rich at his next club, he'll have been another example of coaching incompetence at City - if he fails at his next club, he'll be another example of scouting incompetence at City.

    Long live the nonsense!

There’s a good few Bradford fans as I bastardise a film quote. You can’t handle nice football. Don’t hoof it, followed by stop mucking around with it, get it up there

How can I not be patronising when you trot out the exact excuses I said you would?

Not his players, new to management, only one window, club on the down, players maybe didn't have the character he needs (what manager doesnt need players with character?), chairman was bullying him and excuse upon excuse upon excuse upon excuse for failure.

So his one bit of relative success was when he was handed a club on the up, a great couple of years, with the foundation (and more) of a good team. Even then he didn't get over the final hurdle which, and I have said this many times, if Parkinson had been in charge with the same team we would have gone up as Champions.

I simply don't see that this is a good appointment and I will argue it until proved otherwise and to date we have NO evidence to suggest it is.

Other than being Mr Bradford City and a Bradford PLAYING Legend there is nothing in his management resume that would have got him the job.

....and people on here complain about a lack of ambition!

Guthrie may have had a bad debut, but he had plenty of chances to impress in training. The fact that he wasn’t picked again, seems to show that Stuart doesn’t rate him, and he indeed is not good enough.

Parker confirms the only player we have missed out on is Sarvacic if that’s how you spell it. Not in for Henderson probably have to lose a striker before bringing one in
