I hope to god we've secured a sell on clause because at this rate, he's going to be in the premier league this time next year.

 

To be honest from most of your posts you dont seem to see many positives - Stuart is our manager so just get behind him and stop looking for negatives in everything you see

 

Broke the Watt news first in all fairness.

 

Stuart is as nice a man as anyone could wish to meet. He's funny, witty and intensely loyal and he is desrvedly loved by much of our fanbase. Unfortunately, none of that converts him into a successful football manager. He was lucky to inherit the spine of a very good team in his second stint and he did well with it, but time and again he is shown up to be tactically naive, not least in his team selection at Wembley for which I still haven't forgiven him. He just isn't intelligent in a football sense and far too pusillanimous for a man who was such a warrior in his playing days. He doesn't learn from experience either and sticks with his methods and approach despite overwhelming evidence that they don't work. The signing of Billy Clarke is a sure sign that we're going to see more of the tippy tappy possession football with no end product that we had last time. He's another in a long list of great players who hadn't a clue as managers.
We'll all back him though (again) and hope he can give us a successful season, and given the financial problems many clubs will face he might never get a better chance, but for me he was a lazy appointment by an equally naive chairman.

The circumstances in which he was signed didn’t help. We’d sold the divisions leading goalscorer to Swindon after failing to play to his strengths and quite frankly embarrassing ourselves, our club captain and top scorer had been sent out on loan and our second highest goalscorer Remi Oteh had also returned to his parent club. We’d lost a lot of firepower in a short space of time so we decided to address this by scouring the bench of the literally the worst professional team in the country. Our fans were quite right peed off and It took about 20 minutes to see why he was surplus to requirements at the mighty Stevenage.

Awful player signed by a manager who was completely out of his depth.

 

I'd love to know who really signed Novak and Guthrie.

 

We know Guthrie was a top player in league 2 the season before last so what has made him the terrible player we have at city today

 

how many has he got wrong though? Throw enough names around and at some point one will be right

 

A lot of fair comments in there - only time will tell what 'he has learnt' but for now lets all just stick behind him and see what happens. First thing for me is to have a motivated team with togetherness, whatever other qualities you need to get out of League 2 you wont achieve it without winning a few wars. But I do take the points you make

 

Don't think he/she came out with any other rumours other than sutton or Watt. Did say Watt would be a loan though.

 

But then maybe that is why it is a little unfair to write him off. Agree completely that the circumstances did not help at all. However, to write him off after 20 minutes against Stevenage just seems a little harsh. As I said I would agree he looked poor against Stevenage, maybe playing against a defence who knew his strengths/weaknesses well. I cannot fathom why I feel like I am sticking up for him, I just feel like he has been written off with very little opportunity to see what he can actually do.

 

Actually a decent write up and like your thinking. I have written off Guthrie but you just never know! Little to base my opinion on but Tolly may well have hit the nail on the head, at a time when the club was in freefall and much anger was resonating from supporters.

Strangely, I had a rite soft spot for Torpey for some reason...finished about a 1 in 4 striker as I recall

 

On Guthrie I wasn't impressed with what I saw and wasn't impressed with signing him but maybe the Crewe gaffer thinks there is a player there.

He wouldn't be the first striker we have underutilised.

 

Bar one or two hits we're notoriously bad with strikers.
