As the spread of this virus continues, there is a real possibility that either the Government or the Premier League/FA/EFL will suspend all matches.
    It has started in Europe.

Is the picture on that page of the actual game or a CGI/computer game of it?

    It just doesn't look real

If this had been at the start of the season, they could shut down for a month, and make the games up mid week, but at this stage of the season,a months shut down could potentially render the fixtures already played null and void, with no promotion or relegation.

Not sure. Just searched and that seemed to be the most reasonable story that I could find.

Whatever, I guess it is watch this space.

I think that the league could be suspended, by the time the next home fixture, is due at VP.

Can not see it myself unless there are a lot of new cases, and I mean by the shed load. If they stop football at all levels what is the difference between an average L2 attendance and the number of people in Broadway on any day?

The PL are already drawing up contingency plans in case of the virus spreading to greater numbers and games having to be postponed or even cancelled. I guess the EFLwill be doing something similar.

Think it won’t happen just yet, but if it really breaks out, ie ppl contracting this virus and haven’t been abroad I think they will. Heard this morning advice that all over 60’s should avoid going into crowded areas!! Heard this stat as well, if somebody sneezes unprotected, it can spread out to 8 metres and hang in the air for ten minutes!! No wonder it is spreading so fast.

    Update.

“Reports have emerged that the game's governing bodies have held discussions over the prospect of playing games behind closed doors, if mass gatherings at sporting events are limited by the government”.

Both the EFL and the government are reluctant to cancel fixtures and, at the moment, there are no signs of any games being cancelled.

Meanwhile Italian football is starting to close down.

‘Italy's sports minister Vincenzo Spadafora says Serie A games may be played behind closed doors in an effort to contain coronavirus.

Italy is the worst-hit European country with some 2,260 cases and 79 deaths so far, including more than 20 in the past 24 hours.

The Italian Cup semi-finals between Juventus and AC Milan and Napoli and Inter Milan have been postponed’. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51737430

I don't wish to make light of the virus but how funny would it be if Leeds were top of the championship only for games to be voided and no promotions or delegations......

It will spread much quicker amongst the players on the pitch with all the spitting that goes on , won’t need to tell people not to run on the pitch anymore

The problem with that is the amount of people needed for a Football match isn't insignficant especially as the talk is that they would need to make all matches available for broadcast. That's a lot of people potentially who could be carrying it who could infect others. And if teams start having mass cases in their squads there is no way they can be made to or allowed to play matches even behind closed doors

I think that as soon as a single player gets it in a team they will all be isolated for two weeks which would stop all their games.

I wouldnt even play them behind closed doors. Just simulate the results. We're ace on FM20.

Well if Bolton got away with not playing because their players were "tired" ,there is no way the EFL could make clubs play if half their squad had the virus.
