Well the first home league game in what seems an absolute age is five days away. Michael Flynn’s return. Newport struggled to beat Maldon & Tiptree on Saturday getting the winning goal in injury time.

Apparently they have an injury crisis at Newport. Central defenders Kyle Howkins and Mark O’Brien going off injured during the second half at Maldon. The pair add to the mounting injury list that already includes full-backs Mickey Demetriou and Daniel Leadbitter, midfielders Scot Bennett, Ross Willmott, Joss Labadie and Taylor Maloney, and strikers Keanu Marsh-Brown and Ade Azeez. So they clearly ‘top trump’ our injury list, what is not clear is how many will have recovered for Saturday.

Their recent away form is not startling. Their last four is 1W 1D 2L.

In reality, this is a game we really should win, with some ease.

Yeah seen there injury list is rather large to say the least. Michael Flynn I believe is considering reregistering himself as a player after not playing in 2 and a half years for the game at Brighton tomorrow night in the EFL Trophy.

I'd go with this, with the exception of Taylor over Cooke. Taylor impressed me with his enthusiasm on Saturday and wasn't afraid to get stuck in at times, whereas Cooke has been very below par for his last 3 games

Unfortunately we all know Bowyer won't go 442 though, which will lose him a lot of faith on Saturday should we not win

I spoke to a couple of Blackburn fans at work to see if Bowyer was stubborn with his tactics when he was manager there. The response I got was, he signs some really good players and gets the best out of them. Also he keeps them really fit throughout the season - must be having an unlucky one here - or something wrong with our fitness/physios?

However tactically he doesn't know how to change his tactics or read a game where some tactics need changing within that game. This final comment worried me and I really hope he doesn't play 433 at the weekend.

On facebook someone put up this stat, which explains everything -

    352 - (P=1 L=1)
    4312 - (P=2 D=2)
    4141 - (P=2 W=2)
    433 - (P=6 W=2 D=1 L=3)
    442 - (P=7 W=5 D=1 L=1)

The bottom on is made to look better in two of the wins he changed to a 433 before we scored our goals

Yes, I see your point but for me we only have two creative CMs, the other being Devitt who's injured. Therefore I'd play Cooke and give him licence to get forward at every opportunity which I think is his more natural game. That would be a positive approach, however, as is playing 4-4-2. With the apparent mindset of our manager I don't think we'll see either.

I think the formation is the last of our problems currently. I'm not subscribed to this 442 is the only way stuff and can see why Bowyer plays 433.

I'm much more concerned at the style of play and the negative and conservative tactics and instructions which the players are receiving. You sort that out and then it doesn't really matter what formation gets played providing players play in their natural positions.

Playing 442 isn't suddenly going to make us create more chances or keep possession of the ball better if the instructions from the manager stay the same.

I definitely think he's overly pre-occupied with making us hard to beat which he's done well imo, but it means we're wasting our attackers a bit. I think we've enough about us at the back to leave ourselves a little more open and attack more. Gotta be as 4-4-2 cos to me we look to have 2 out n out centre forwards and the rest wingers or a wide midfielder in Pritchard's case. It'll also help Vaughan having another man up there to take some of the physical burden off him and allow him to get on the last man more and press for mistakes/ get on the end of through passes.

442 or 433 it doesn't really matter what formation we start out as if our only tactic is hoofing it to James Vaughan.

For me this marks the start of what should be 8 points out of 12 minimum
Anything less I think we should consider Bowyers position
I really mean it as well.
Saturday was bad enough but like you say, these lot a decimated and there for the taking.
    Orient are in freefall
Carlisle and Mansfield being tougher but still points available.
If we are say 8 points adrift of the top 3 by new years day and still playing in the same lethargic, inflexible and ill-disciplined way then his team isn't the one to take us up this season which is essential.

Totally agreed. If it doesn't work out, Nathan Jones is out there, a passionate manager who plays expansive football. Think the Stoke move was too soon for him, but worked wonders at Luton.

Well I have put some figures together with what I think will be the table after New Year’s Day it is just a guesstimate and my opinion on who has played each other and points gained by the clubs involved in the top half of the table. It sets it up nicely for the Swindon game on the 4th Jan

    1. Forest Green. 49 points

    2. Crewe. 48 points

    3. BCFC. 45 points not including the game in hand

    4 Swindon. 44 points

    5 Exeter. 42 points

    6. Cheltenham. 38 points

    7. Plymouth. 37 points

    8. Mansfield. 35 points

Anyone looking to replace Bowyer now shouldn't be suggesting Nathan Jones.

It take him two and a half seasons to get Luton promoted from League Two, with his first full season being virtually identical in terms of results and position to what we've seen under GB.

Sorry, but if you do not have the patience for Bowyer, please don't suggest a manager who needs a little bit of time to get his feet under the table before the results come.

Only suggest people like Jones if you have some patience.
