    Went to the Classic Persian for OH's birthday yesterday. We quite enjoyed it. I think it suits people who are meat eaters most, but our son in law is a fan of the sea bass. I really enjoyed the starters most - hot aubergine one called kashke bademjan was fantastic. If I went again (and we probably will) I think I would just have two lots of starters. I thought the saffron flavoured naan bread was a real winner and I liked the saffron rice too - not often you comment on the rice.
    The kebabs were lovely but the portions were far too big. I brought a doggy bag home that did 2 of us for lunch.
    It was very informal and welcoming and given you can take your own booze so prices reasonable.

    Not in Yorkshire, but not far away is the White Swan at Fence, near Burnley. I have not been myself, but friends whose judgement I trust are raving about it. So it is on the list.

    Still not been but think we have a visit planned.

    Starters often outdo the main event in most restaurants, I reckon. Might just take that advice when we go.

    Great Northern, Thackley was the first pub I went in to be served underage as a 16 year old many moons ago. None of this ID nonsense back then!. My 30 year old daughter still carries ID just in case. She was refused service at Wembley a couple of years ago against Millwall because she had no ID on her. I had to go to the bar instead and the daft thing is the girl serving behind the bar looked much younger than my daughter.

    Anyhow back to the Great Northern, not checked it out since reopening. Son in Law was in last night and seemed to like it

    I think it is the only Timothy Taylor pub out of Yorkshire, and it certainly is the only that has a Michelin Star. We went to it in the summer of 2018, before it got a Michelin Star, however the chef was ill and it wasn’t doing food! Doh! https://www.whiteswanatfence.co.uk/

    First pub with my old fella was the Woolpack on White Abbey road. Used to get the bus into town and do the circuit of pubs around White Abbey, start at what was the diplomat, then in no particular order the Melbourne, the IDL club, the office, the Woolpack and the lower globe. Then quick walk or run depending how late we were to the bus stop on Market Street. Great days.

    As a 16 year old I took a girl (15) to the Hare and Hounds (now a carpet shop) at Undercliffe, I had not a clue. I can vividly recall shitting myself and asking the barman for "Two pints of beer", he took pity on me....I think .

    Apologies. Need to go to spec savers! Yes it was very good. Sad to see it go. Ironically that means that the ‘City of Bradford’ (differentiating it from Bradford MBC with the Box tree & Devonshire both previous holders of Michelin stars) has a Michelin Stared restaurant more recently than Manchester, until the arrival of Noma! :thumbup:

    The Wheatsheaf up Wakefield Road opposite the Railway Club, 15 years old but a big lad, just got my first illegal pint and the bobbies walked in, I though first drink and a night under the Town Hall Clock but luckily they were looking for one of Bradfords well known families the Lowthers, had a quick shifty around and left.

    First pint as a 15 year old was at Nab Wood sports centre. My 18 yo mate went to the bar while I sat bricking myself looking out the window into the sports hall. First one I bought myself was at the ice rink, closely followed by the Swing Gate.

    Was a regular there and over the road at the Hare and Hounds in my teens. Great bunch of regulars used to pack those pubs out even on each midweek night
