Scannell was our only attacking outlet, Wood tried hard and had an okay start to second half when we rallied untill they got the third! I barely noticed Devine. Him, Akpan and Anderson have to be one of the weakest midfields I've ever seen at city. It needs strengthening asap.

Wasn't expecting a win but embarrassing to see such a thrashing with complete ease by Northend. They barely broke sweat. I wanted to see us compete.

Seriously starting to doubt Bowyers tactics. Doyle on his own up front offers zero threat. Chucking in the totally inexperienced French at fullback - he's a centre back isn't he? He definitely played he wasn't used to that position and there left sided player had him on toast (French toast ha ha).

Just an awful awful game which I really wish I not bothered going to!

He didn't say he had a poor game, he said he was average.

Do you not think the 2 highlighted points are linked? If Doyle is played up front on his own (in a role that Bowyer has even stated publicly that he struggles to do), who did you think Scannell was going to supply? He can’t provide an end product if we only have 1 player in the box, being marked by 2 centre backs.

It was a normal Devine performance, a lot of effort but can't actually remember him being on the pitch.

Check out our stats for that game. We had one of the highest possession and pass counts that weekend - Palmer was responsible for plenty of those passes.

Yes, Cambridge had a man sent off second half but the bare facts are the bare facts. We had plenty of the ball and Palmer knocked it about well in the middle.

Our final ball that day, well.....that's another matter.

I'll stick my neck out on Devine, I don't think he's good enough to play in the football league. That he's anywhere near our starting 11 shows how poor our midfields is

The doyle it's not his fault so cant fault him comments are wearing thin now.

He has to do more....been over a season now take out his penalty goals and he really hasnt done anything or looks likely to.

Well just sat down and totally unimpressed by what I saw tonight.

    Formation a real head scratcher.

Doyle as a lone striker? Really. He did manage to head the ball around 5 times though.

Goalkeeper-hard to judge but he did fumble an easy through ball late on under no pressure.

Tyler French dodgy first half-better second good block late on in box.

Anderson-not got a clue why he is in the team-managed to pass to PNE more than BCAFC.

AOC-stupid pass across box for their 3rd. Why the feck would you do that?

Akpan -didnt realise he was playing tonight.

Devine-drifted out and out of the game

The rest average though Longridge did better than Henley so hope he starts on Sat.

MOTM POC or Patrick (yes) when he came on. He actually ran at PNE and sort of troubled them a bit nearly causing us to score late on.

Good following from PNE fans. Maybe 800 or so?

If we dont strengthen midfield in the transfer window then I feel we are in for a looong old season.

I assume It’s a shop window situation but he is a positive embarrassment. If it carries on I feel sure fans will not put up with it for long without some strident reaction.

It shows how far we've regressed that he's come from out of the cold and is now being considered for a starting spot.

I thought he was being re-signed on the cheap as backup, along with Anderson, so it is alarming we're now depending on these lads as first teamers, albeit in a lower league.

On a positive not, I got 7.60 on Preston winning 4 nil before the game.
On a downside, I only put a fiver on.

Will carry those winnings onto Saturday. I'm sure the odds have changed after tonights game...

Out of the 3 I'd say maybe at a push i can accept Anderson as a squad filler as he does put himself about a bit but it's the fact that we have all three in there, tonight proved that is one feeble midfield!

Hornby 5 - don’t think you can blame any of the goals on him

A O’Connor 4 - Badly at fault for the third goal. A killer after we came out of the blocks after half time with more purpose.

French 5 - grew into the game after initial nerves. Lost his striker for the first goal, but considering where he was last year and now playing against Championship opposition he did OK.

    Longridge 7 - a rare bright spot I thought.

Akpan 3 - did absolutely nothing.

    Anderson 3 - ditto Akpan

Devine 4 - only slightly better than Akpan and Anderson.

Scannell 5 - thought he was poor tonight.

Wood 5 - offered no more than Scannell. Not the wide man we need. Maybe give him a go in central midfield!

Doyle 4 - not the player to be a lone striker. I actually get sorry for him because he was asked to play a role that’s not his game.

People saying the formation was a 4-3-3. I saw it as a 4-5-1. Scannell and Wood were not far enough forward to make it a 4-3-3.

    4-4-2 please Mr Bowyer.

I can pass a ball sideways 2-3yds away. Doesn’t make me look “very good” though. One of the criticisms of McCall’s team in the nearly season was that although we dominated possession, most of the passes rarely went forward and we lacked penetration.

Exactly what we experienced against Cambridge, even with only 10 players on the field

It only stops being a moot point when the clown picking him starts playing him properly. Sticking him up top on his own? May as well stuck a noose around his head seen as he was happy to hang him out to dry

Pretty fair assessment that. I'd add that Wood played alright, the shot off his right foot that hit the bar was an absolute belter. I actually enjoyed watching Preston's pass and move and speed of play, i know they weren't up against much but they did a professional job out there. Its a level of football i'm unlikely to see a Bradford for a very long time so i made the most of it. A good following as well from Preston on a drab Tuesday night.
I can accept defeat as part of football and i didn't expect us to win tonight but i'm struggling to accept a manager sending a team out with no intention of trying to win the game. Playing Doyle up top on his own was a lousy thing to do to the fans and to Doyle himself, the lad has little to no confidence as it is and Bowyer has hung him out to dry for the third game running. A little bit of me is starting to lose patience, he had better give us a damn sight better result on Saturday or the faint grumblings in the crowd will quickly get louder.

Not sure what to say about that tonight. It has all been said so won’t repeat. Of course we all assumed we would lose, but I thought we would compete and put the jitters up them. They swept through us as if we didn’t exist. When we read the team sheet, my husband said are you sure that is the correct city account on Twitter. Checked again, but neither of us could believe it. My immediate reaction was he is throwing the game!

I have no idea whether we have money to spend or not, but if that is our midfield, we are seriously in a lot of trouble. Please don’t let us as a club do it again and leave a team half cooked!

I don’t understand why we would put an even weaker side out, I do understand we have to concentrate on the league, but cup matches give you income. We go in at 2 mill down at half time, and nothing. If they had told me we’re not competing and using it as a training game I would have kept my money in my pocket and stayed at home. Fans that I know are already starting to question whether we have the right manager. Players who had an ok game are P O’Connor, Wood, Scannell, Longbridge.

It was a frustating performance against Cambridge but, for me, the frustrations came from other players on the pitch more than Palmer.

He was a 7/10 for me. I'll downgrade my 'very good' assessment to a 'good', but certainly disagree with the claim elsewhere he was poor. As I say, I didn't do Grimsby or tonight so am unsure if he has built on what he showed at home to Cambridge, but he showed he had an eye for a pass that day and knocked it about well. A Gareth Whalley - unsung hero - type of player. He's the least of our worries right now, though.
