Utd are foolish to pay average player 350k so I can't blame him for that mate.

I agree about the PL clubs overspending and its knock-on impact on the transfer market lower down.

But your description of Harry Maguire as a 'pub player' undermines all faith in your footballing opinions.
The reason that Man U have shelled out such a ridiculous sum on Maguire is because the man is pure class. He is dominant in the air, good in the tackle, calm under pressure, accurate in the pass and can carry the ball forward like Rio Ferdinand. He was described yesterday by Carragher and Souness as possibly the best centre back in the Premier League. He was MoM by a country mile yesterday and will transform Utd's defence.

Your constant erroneous predictions of doom in the Parky years were bad enough. But if you think Maguire is a pub player then you're beyond hope.

So he's better that VVD? Don't be so stupid.

He is a pub player. He had a good match against an extremely poor Chelsea side. He was up against Abraham and Mount.. I could mark them two. Throw in an aging shi@e Pedro as well and you're waxing over Harry already?

If you think Harry Maguire is worth 80m then I want some of what you've been smoking.

I think every pub team in the country along with 99% of professional clubs would love him in their teams. The ridiculous transfer fees being paid in the premier league is another matter

I never said he was worth 80m, did I? I described the sum as 'ridiculous', which it is. But from United's point of view it's worth it, because he will so greatly improve their defence and facilitate their fast counter attacking game.
Did I say that he's better than VVD? No, I didn't. But Souness, Carragher and Mourinho were seriously discussing that possibility. In particular that Maguire seems more comfortable carrying the ball out of defence and starting attacks, whereas VVD tends to play short passes to a fullback or midfielder.

If you think Maguire is a pub player then I certainly don't want any of what you've been smoking.

Was there a better centre half performance wise than Maguire in the 2018 World cup? Was the best of our bunch by a country mile.

His not worth 80m and he isn't that good. Next you will be telling me Evans is worth 90m or something.

If you even think he's close to VVD in any way then wow. If Maguire is worth 80m the VVD is worth about 150m in today's market.

A pub player midget be strong but he certainly isn't world class. No bloody way.

The market determines the price, but out of interest if you have VVD in a team, which PL CBs who are better than Maguire do you pick to play with him?

Can you even read? At no point have I compared him to VVD or said that I think he's better. I simply described the discussion between Carragher, Souness and Mourinho, who all rate him very highly and whose views I'd listen to ahead of yours any day.
The comparison is irrelevant anyway. Regardless of how good VVD is, Maguire has gone for 80m because he is an all round class act. Whether he's the best CB in the PL or the second best is immaterial. VVD wasn't available and Maguire was. Leicester were able to get such a huge sum for him because Utd needed a class CB and Maguire is the real deal. It's beyond me that you can't see that.

No there wasn't. Maguire is now an established world class CB. He'd walk into most national teams. Not bad for a pub player.

Difficult one. Funny that the game of football is played by millions worldwide and is awash with billions of pounds of revenue yet after at best a handful of centre backs, its hard to think of any that are truly world class. Watching Chelsea yesterday half the players that started for them are hardly premiership quality never mind top six quality. What do academies do with these kids for years and years when some still struggle with basics?

World Class Maguire isn't world class.

World Class because he plays for a poor Utd side? Please.

How is he world Class? Very interested to hear this.

Although I rate Maguire after his World Cup performances I'm not sure we would be discusing him or United if Chelsea had have had a bit of luck with their finishing in the first half striking the bar and post with the keeper beaten, and the keepers save with his outstreched leg.
No way was that game a 4-0, United were all at sea for long periods in the first half.
As quoted after the game a perfect example of hitting teams on the break I'm not sure they will find it that easy against other teams, the Chelsea defence was poor on the day.

I agree but some of the stuff United played on the break was reminiscent of the Fergie years. And they are a very young team that can only get better

His mate backing him up. Need more than that mate.

Look Utd were after De ligt but couldn't get him because they're not in the CL. They could get Maguire because he hasn't played CL and played for Leicester.

However paying 80m for him is a joke. It's embarrassing. Yes, he is better than what they had but that wasn't hard as Utd are a poor side now but he is just a good defender. Evans would of walk back into the Utd side for example.

Now Wan Bissaka was different, he is a quality signing and worth the 50m Utd paid.

You do realise that last season Jose wanted Maguire for 45m but the board said No. so in a year Utd paid an extra 35m ha ha Ed Woodward

What so Rodger Milla was world class.

What a stupid comment. Seriously think about what you're saying. Utter nonsense!

It's got nothing to do with which side he plays for. Your lack of logic is occasionally breathtaking.

    Dominant in the air.
    Reads the game well.
    Good tackler.
    Organises others.
    Good first touch/close control.
    Excellent passer
Best ball carrying CB since Rio Ferdinand

His only significant weakness is his lack of pace, but he makes up for that by his positioning and anticipation. And he's only 26 - a baby in CB terms, so he's going to get even better.
