    Whilst this might look like a bit like City's team at Brighouse, sadly for Bury this is their current first team for their first pre-season friendly today. Most of their backroom staff have gone as well.

    CVA agreed by creditors at a meeting today, so Bury will start the season (assuming they can sort all their other problems out) on -12 points.

    Shame wasn’t last year. 2 relegation spots tied up. Bury could get record low points total.

    Bury was very obvious that it would end in tears. I will try and hunt out some articles on the devious way they financed themselves.

    Agree it has been well documented on BT about the way they were going as a club, once again it will be the fans who suffer at both Bury and Bolton, we've been through similar and you wouldn't (well most sensible fans wouldn't) wish that on any other clubs fans.

    In other words they are in serious danger of being chucked out of the EFL. I presume they then go ahead with 23 teams. I’d hope it would mean 5 teams go up but they’d probably only relegate 3. Or could they promote Mansfield?

    EFL regulation 12.2 covers such a scenario; it would be a reduction in the number of relegated clubs.

    In all scenarios, its the number of relegation places that is reduced, rather than an increase in promotion places. From the final whistle of the last play off final in 2018/19 until the final whistle of the last play off final in 2019/20 any such reduction will apply to the 2019/20 season so, if Bury are expelled in the next two weeks it won't matter whether or not the season has started.

    If Bury fold completely then there will have to be an extra promoted team somewhere in the ladder at the end of the 19/20 season. Otherwise there'll only be 23 teams in L2 for the 20/21 season.

    I thought you meant for this coming season. If they go then it would be 23 teams in League 1 in 2019/20.

    Yes, the EFL operates a one less relegated approach, but lower down the pyramid different rules apply.
