I've heard that on his day, Championship is his level.

Problem is that "his days" are few and far between and the majority of the time he's anonymous.

 

What we should do is charge all the carers that attend. We'd be rolling in it.

 

And that’s the reason he’s in league two. If he was as consistent as we all want he’d be in the championship minimum.

 

Like all lower league wingers not consistent

 

That's a fair analysis but I believe the problem is that for too much of the time he plays well below the level he's currently playing at.

No one is asking him to be championship quality, just a consistent 7/8 out of 10 in league two would be a good season.

 

Sounds like Bobby Petta syndrome.

 

That seems to be a common trait amongst wingers.
The better ones having less of these games.

All the signings Bowyers made have something to prove and kick start their careers, which for me is better than signing journey men like Wright and Akpan that have played in the championship and don’t think they’ve anything to prove , so don’t show any fight or passion for the club. The signings so far don’t look that great on paper , but these guys may just work their socks off for each other and bond into a good team.

 

Walsall played mostly 4-4-2 last season but quite a few 4-3-3 and also other formations on several games. This probably would not help players struggling to find the consistency needed to avoid relegation. Maybe Bowyer knows what will suit Ismail best.

Signing another winger makes it look like Bowyer is going to play 4-1-4-1 more than 5-3-2. (These were his preferred formations prior to joining City.) I'm guessing that means O'Connor will play midfield anchor, right in front of the centre backs and occasionally dropping in as needed. I suspect that will suit him better and give the team more aerial backbone. That might allow Ismail, Scannell, Anderton, Akpan and other midfielders a little more chance to push up, which I can imagine might suit all of them better. Let's face it, they were all crap at defending last year!

 

I don't think O'Connor will be in Bowyer's plans just yet. He'll get rid of him the first opportunity he gets.

 

If our plan is for A'OC to play in holding midfielder, behind Anderson and Akpan, we've another season of struggle to 'look forward' to.

 

O'connor must not start the season here.

see it the other way round. maybe he relishes playing in front of a big crowd or an occasion. Better suited to Bradford then. The most exciting thing about Walsall is that you can see it from the motorway

 

Do you know if they are intended as first choice or squad fillers? You don't know, I don't know

 

I'll be honest, I've never heard of him, nor the other lads we've signed this summer either, lol.

Everything is screaming "budget is stretched" but as the likes of Accrington have shown in the past, League Two is a diabolical league and the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. It is all about the atmosphere Bowyer builds in the squad and whether the players want to play for him and the club.

More than happy to wipe the slate clean by the time the new season comes around, though, and looking forward to having it back now, bizarrely!
