Forward thinking is something we simply have not employed since Lawn, Rhodes and Parky left.

Really sad demise.

 

Just seen the tackle on LOB and IMHO it was not a penalty.

NKP goes walkabout and their lad smashes it in. Deserved win if you look at the stats for the game.

According to City website on Facebook the ref DIDN'T award a penalty but actually wanted Oxford to re take their illegal dead ball kick again.

 

true. Sounds like we were truely awful though. Looking at the plight of Chesterfield, Yeovil and Notts County who not long back were chsmpionship or v nearly so I am very worried

Yeah looking at that I think pen would have been soft - that said, if ref is saying LOB touched the ball last then their player hasn’t got the ball in the tackle which took LOB down as he shoots.

One of those where, given the ball has gone out a split second later, you wouldn’t normally see the pen awarded - though Bournemouth had one awarded against them recently in similar circumstances. You can see Payne suggesting this to the ref - either that or he’s saying their defender get the last touch.

For the ref to then (as far as I can tell) - permit the goal kick to be taken with 4 of our players still in the area (which is against the laws), not seemingly communicate properly with his assistants to allow Oxford to get as far as scoring, then bring it back apparently for a pen to us and got as far as awarding it, before eventually giving the goal - is nothing short of farcical.

Doesn’t change the fact that we absolutely deserved to lose and deserve to be where we are - but regardless of how we’d played, that should have been 0-0 at worst.

 

Expect the ref and officials to have a weekend off next week

 

Per @Keefly Bantam post, looks potentially like ref was going back to make Oxford re-take the goal kick rather than giving a pen.

If we say the challenge on LOB isn’t a pen, then that is exactly what he should have done (retake goal kick), because the restart hasn’t yet happened i.e. our kick off.

If the City FB page is accurate, accepting it feels a pretty minor reason to deny Oxford an injury time winner, you can’t pick and choose which laws to enforce. I therefore can’t fathom why the ref has decided to still award the goal.

 

Most home games, several away.

It's been awful. Gutless and insipid, whoever's been in charge.

 

If we were challenging for a play off place we would probably be hopeful even after today s result of bridging the gap. But

Away from this depressing subject my granddaughter brought me some olives stuffed with garlic and pimento this evening. I now know how Hannibal lecter felt when he hate his victims eyeballs with a nice Chianti. Like watching Anderson earn a wage.

 

The club has never been “forward thinking” even under lawn and Rhodes it went season to season, saved by cup runs and some good fees for youngsters.

We need a plan and a structure but our problem is we want it all now and if we don’t get results the manager goes and we scrap it all and have to start again.

 

I managed to stop it just as the keeper puts the ball down and somehow nudge it a single frame and then again and it is definitely a rolling ball when he takes the goal kick since you can see the ball move twice in the two frame changes from hand-down to kick.

I would not take the win from Oxford, though. They clearly deserve it. The officials perhaps deserve relegating the same as us!

And now this

Something tells me the universe really wants us in L2. I can count 12 points we have had robbed from us by bad refs this season.

 

Referees make mistakes all the time but those mistakes are seeing something in a different way or missing things which is understandable as it’s subjective This is different. This is not knowing the rules. That’s one thing you cannot excuse. We were rubbish but the all 4 refs got it wrong.
