    What's your point caller?

I've said that lots of different styles are successful. You've just named teams who are successful and play the style you like. It doesn't change the fact that there are other teams who don't fit your perception but still succeed in one way or another.

Nice edit. I agree with most of that although I'm not sure bringing in another sitting midfielder is high up on the list.

Does anybody know if any tickets are still available for today’s game? Or does anybody have any going spare for sale? Thanks Colin

    That doesn't work does it?

We lost fans through McCall's first spell. We then gained fans through PP's spell and then we lost fans again during McCall.

It's pretty much the opposite of what you're claiming will happen. It seems that Bradford fans as a whole get it when their team play successful, underdog, gritty football with quality alongside it. I don't know why we fight against it.

Bar Accrington, they've probably got the biggest budgets in their league. It's easier to play attacking, attractive football when you've got the best players.

We don't have the best players so have to do something different.

Shrewsbury are an example of a good defensive team, who are solid and hard to beat. They've overachieved.

Agree. I didn't say it would always work by any means. It just seems to be the style that suits us.

Knew someone would talk about budget.

Throw budget in then. Edin and Rupps have given us no budget so we going to play boring defensive football with rubbish players? Exciting times then.

Yes, Shrewsbury have overachieved but they won't go up.

Attacking football is the future. Get with the times.

I remember the successful teams of 87/88 and 98/99, they played the best football i've ever seen City play. Parky gave this club its mojo back and gave us progress every season but i would never put his football anywhere near the teams of 87/88 or 98/99. Thats not to decry his achievements though. I do agree with you that Parky worked with a style that suited his players, if he had tried playing freeflowing passing football they would never have got promoted.

Aaaaaaanyway.... .back to the purpose of the thread.

Reading this quote today tells me he's close to staying

He added: “I’ve got a rough idea of what I’m thinking of doing and I just need a few other bits and bobs to be talked about"

Someone wouldn't say - I know what I'm doing but I need to check on this and that- if they were going. If they were going they wouldn't care about the 'this and that' so for me its probably 80% staying 20% going unless something crops up.

I was thinking the same, although his quote at the bottom "whether I'm here or not" doesn't sound very encouraging to me. In short, none of us have a clue! I'm expecting an almighty meltdown if he leaves

Let's be slightly fair to Parky though. As much as some want to play down his style he also gave me 2 of the best 3 midfield partnerships I've ever seen in a city shirt. It's wasn't all hoof and grit.

Players like Jones, Doyle, Cullen, Evans, Reid, Morais, Nahki, Davies and even Burke had quality about them. In a lot of cases though it was quality alongside a willingness to dig deep and do the hard things though.

Similarly. You reference the team who got to the premiership and once again it's built on players like Lawrence, Moore, Dreyer, McCall, Mills. Even the flair winger in Beagrie was more than willing to stick a tackle in.

Some absolutely great football but I'm sure if we went back and watched all those games again there would be times when a team featuring those players simply ground it out through will and heart not because they played better football than the opposition.

The Criticism of Parkys style of play was way over the top yes there was some boring matches just as there was under Stuart.
The atmosphere in the ground when PP was here was miles better and achieving things always keeps the interest

    Couldn't agree more.

Give me a crunching, physical battle and I'm happy as Larry.

On the old Claret and Banter board, there was a lot of gubbins about there would be an exodus fans if we had to continue to 'endure' Parky's 'dinosaur' style of football. Like you say, though the proof is in the pudding, and the atmosphere and engagement has evaporated. There is no connect with the team even if they've spent 18 of the last 24 months playing 'good' football.

Fair comment, there are always times when you need to win ugly. Its hard not to sound like i'm having a go at Parky which isn't what i wanted it to come across as. He was the perfect fit for the club and the players he brought in bought into his ethos of hard work and attitude beats fancy football. He was proved right in the fact we progressed every year, whose to say we wouldn't have gone on another level if he had stayed. But it will never rate with me like the Terry Dolan team in 87/88 or Jewell's team in 98/99. I don't think i'll see us play football as good as that again, don't forget it was a higher level than we are currently at and the teams we were playing were better.

As for the title of the thread, i couldn't care less whether he stayed or went. If he wants to stay he'll do it for the right reasons, otherwise bugger off. There will be no shortage of applicants should he choose not to sign a new contract.

I always rated the 87/88 team as better than the 98/99 team because it had more flair. Some of the football that season was an absolute joy to watch, the team would win conceding 3 goals and never stopped playing attractive football.

Jewell's team was slightly more orthodox, more solid. Dolan's team would (imo) have coped better with the Premier League.
