The Agora in Horsforth is supposed to be cracking! Not tried it myself but a few friends have and say it’s lovely

The Agora is very good, as is Santorini in Headingley. There is also a realtively new one in Adel called Amalthea. The food is quite expensive but quite traditional and it's BYO booze. Hope this helps

My wife (S) and I went to Denmans with another couple (D & E).
It's a small place with a small bar area as you walk in with about 2 or 3 tables to the other side.
We were seated downstairs though in a basement with 5 tables for 4 and one table for two.

As you get to the bottom of the stairs you enter past the serving area of an open kitchen,
which looked clean and orderly and well ventilated as there were no fumes or cooking smells to be noticed.

We were seated and our drinks were ordered.
D and I decided on the draught IPA whilst S had a diet Pepsi and E had a glass of Sauvignon Blanc.
IPA and Denmans Lager are the only two draughts but there are the usual bottles available and a limited but interesting wine menu.

The menu is on chalk board only but carries a reasonably impressive array of starters and mains.

Starters: I had sizzling King Prawns, 5 big quarter shell on ones, cooked in olive oil with garlic, chilli and chive.
They were tender and juicy and carried a nice kick with the chilli.
D had the Tandoori Basket, which is a shaped popodom filled with Tandoori chicken, salad and raita, looked a meal in itself.
I tried some of the chicken and it tasted really authentic.
S & E had the Goats cheese tart which like the other starters was plentiful and well presented, E commented that she felt like she was being served on Master Chef it looked that good.

Very good start to the evening. Prices ranged from £6 to £8.

    Ordered another round of drinks.

Mains: I could have chosen anyone of the 9 main dishes but I'm dieting and didn't want to be adventurous so plumped for the Sirloin steak served with dripping chips, a tomato and side veg.
I just had two of the massive chips stacked up like Jenga but they were really tasty and aficionados would love them. The tomato was cooked perfectly and the small helping of veg was ample and cooked well.
I'm not a massive lover of Sirloin, it's the least flavourful cut and I would normally plump for Rib-eye or Rump if available.
It came with a pepper sauce which was obviously made from the pan juices with a little wine and ground black pepper so that gave the steak a bunce of flavour needed.
The steak itself was well cooked to medium and tender.

S and D went for the Chicken Milanese(breaded chicken breast) with linguini pomodoro (a light tomato pasta).. looked plain to me but they both enjoyed.

E had the Spinach and Ricotta Tortellini in a tomato ragout with parmesan and pesto, smelled amazing and she said it was as good as she has had in any Italian restaurant.

Prices ranged from £13 to £18.

We were full after this and although we looked at the sweet menu we just couldn't eat any more.

    D & I had another beer whilst S & E had a coffee.

The two servers were experienced, attentive and polite.

    Bill £124.45 for four.

    Food 9
    Service 10
    Value 8

Overall very impressed and although it's not Michelin it certainly adds to the few fine dining establishments available to us in reasonable distance.

Hey moody cow was really nice. I had rump steak and ribs the ribs were particularly nice with lovely sweet potato fries. My wife (feel like I want to say companion to sound like I'm Michael winner in the times) had filet steak which was lovely. Very generous portions only needed one course.

Lovely stylish room impressive transformation from what I remember as quite a gloomy pub.

    I'd definitely go back.

Given that I do not live in Bradford, then what is the Waterside restaurant like in Shipley? Given a choice between there or the Shibden Mill Inn, which would you choose and why?

    Thanks.

Nice one! This bodes well - it's fairly local for me too and there's not that much other choice really. Any hidden gems you know about?

As a chip-fancier I'm very taken by the sound of those spuds. I'm with you on steak too - it can seem a slightly 'lazy' option but it's often what I actually want to neck.

All this is putting tonight's tea of beans on toast to shame.

Waterside for me - I was really taken by it when I went. The menu's quite compact which means they really nail the stuff that they do.

From what little I know it's a family operation, and they're a passionate bunch.

I really like Shibden Mill Inn to the point where we might be using it for a bit of a gathering. It's a semi-local for me, too, and part of the Great Inns collective which contains some ace boozers (the Inn at Whitewell that featured on The Trip being another), but I'm a sucker for a smaller 'bistro' environment hence my choice.

I would add that Shibden Mill Inn is great if you want a few drinks before or after you've eaten. The terrace is a corker if the weather's good and, if it isn't, the fires inside are usually crackling away...

Haven't been to the Waterside for two years so it may have changed but we were not over impressed.
We visit Shibden Mill often though and although it's pricey it is consistently good.
