If the change in formation was enough to get @TallinnBantam excited then he'd have keeled over when Collins was in charge!

 

How do you get that if we'd have taken the NKP headed chance we go a goal up, stop trying to make it out if we drop Payne all are problems are solved.

 

Probably means we'd play 4-4-2 as well which is probably what we need to do.

 

5 at the back isn't working.

 

It might be that David feels we can't play 4-4-2 with Payne tho. He seems to play two up top and neither of those is Payne and he doesn't seem to play Payne in a midfield 4 because he took him off and then changed to 4-4-2. That might be the dilemma he's trying to work with.

Has your brain not figured out that we won't be beating teams 3/4/5 nil at this moment? What we need is to play ugly. Get a decent draw or 1-0 win.

Payne is a problem for us at the minute as all season we have built our team round him and got nowhere apart from being in the bottom

You may be correct but I'm not having it that by dropping Payne all our problems are solved as fordy is suggesting, no mention of NKP not defending well for their first goal from Marquis.

 

He could go 4-3-3 and fit Payne in with the more solid four at the back

For the second match running the referee has refused a clear cut penalty which could have brought us points. When your luck is down it really is down

 

As other comments since FT have also suggested, the change that Tallinn noted in the last 10 mins seems to have to do with playing 442.

I have been lucky enough to see us win all our precious six points this season: both times thanks to composed finishes from Payne.

But the evidence is mounting that we might be better off playing 442. We don't have the quality to get the best out of Payne, and it seems he can't fill one of the wide slots in a 4 man midfield. But if a 4 man midfield protects our brittle back line (and stops us playing 3 centre halves), then it could be worth it.

That said, I feel like I'm clutching at straws. Our players are a rag-bag of pieces from different jigsaw puzzles. They don't fit together.

 

Which ever of our forwards we play or whatever system we.need a physical presence up front to get the best out of them

 

No, it’s because for the first time this season, they actually looked like they gave a f*ck. As mentioned, that was partly down to J O’Brien giving them a bollocking throughout the match, and especially once Miller scored. I thought there was a slim chance we could nick an equaliser, which is certainly the first time I’ve thought that.

Pipe dreams and all that, because on the whole, we never look like scoring, but today there seemed to be more edge about our forward play.

Interesting that we didn’t seem to miss Payne after he was subbed.

Thought the game was pretty even today. Donny shaded it first half and city the second half. 2 quality finishes from marquis.

The subs changed the game in our favour. Miller was decent when he came on and we looked a lot more of a threat when we went 442 without Payne.

Next game will be interesting, but Hopkin may have stumbled on a formation and line up that makes us tick upfront.

We are garbage. That’s not the refs fault. It’s Edins fault. For gods sake, drop the stubborn defence and accept defeat.

 

Maybe we should be asking why our striker has not scored from open play when in the past he has done so well for previous teams he's played for.
Even accepting your comment about building a team around Payne, just how do you drop a player like Payne (or any other player with experience) when we can hardly raise a starting 11, who would you have started today before Payne ?.
What you on about "we wont be beating teams 3/4/5 nil" where have I said or even implied that, you get dafter with your usual stock reply.
I'd suggest for every game this season we've played ugly, did you not watch the Blackpool, Wycome, Fleetwood, Southend game, at Blackpool it was long ball all the game, about as ugly as it could get but I understand why Hopkin played like that, but somewhere he has to be a little more positive when we get players back from injury..

At least you got the one thing right NKP and our defense generally are poor if you dont do the basics then it will cost you, again today NKP did not do his job closing down Marquis, as last week it was O'Connor who didn't show either Ahearne-Grant or Taylor to the bye line simple defending.
