So Alexander has had a look at him in training and deemed that he isn't quite up to match fitness yet and therefore isnt the best option for that position. Nothing to do with him being 'young'. What's your point?

I wonder if we see another signing this week with the possibility of 7 players to be missing for Wycombe now Byrne is out for two months. Add that to Kelly Kavanagh Cook and maybe Leigh and Pattison plus Baldwin still suspended we look alot weaker at the back especially. Does Huntingdon get a short term contract as cover?.

Do we know how long Kelly is out for as I can't remember reading anything about the length of time.

The only saving grace is probably none of the injured would have started against Wycombe baring Pattison who still might make it or kavanagh if Alexander had gone slightly left field.

 

I can see Metcalfe covering Pattison’s absence?

 

Without a doubt but still feel we are short defensively unless Alexander uses Halliday and Richards as CB cover

Richards played LCB when he came on against Oldham Halliday LWB

 

I think for the first 2 games of the season, until Baldwin is back then it may be Richards/Touray as that 4th CB option. We have 3 fit for now so might just get away with it. Huntington probably gets a deal. Goodman is injured too btw I think.

 

Suppose it depends on value? I think the shortest contract you can offer is until Jan, and we are close to the limit if not at it for O21 players to register. If Huntington until Jan is a cheaper contract than loaning some 19 year old who we use in case of emergency like Benn last season, and we have squad space, that's probably a safer bet than a youth loan.

If T Wright was fit it maybe an easier question? As Touray has played LCB just as much as he's played LWB over the last few seasons it seems, so he's another body that can slot in and Wright can cover at LWB until our centre halves are back. For the sake of a match or two, i dunno if we bother. Hasn't Kelly had an issue with his groin before here? Hopefully that's not something that's going to be another lengthy lay off.

Baldwin is back after first 2 games so wouldn't be too bad if Kelly is back by then as well.

 

Baldwin is back for the Northampton game next weekend, he got a 2 game ban for his Donny madness.

 

Are you sure I thought I read he would miss the first 2 games as it was a 3 match ban

 

He got 2 yellows at Donny for a 1 game ban then another for his dissent I think.

T&A think he's back after Wycombe too.... "Aden Baldwin is also unavailable for Saturday’s League One curtain-raiser against Wycombe as he finishes the two-game ban he picked up for the red card at Doncaster."

 

Ahh well, panic over then. 3 CBs will be fine for the Wycombe game.

 

Yeah but you were replying to my post about Alexander not playing someone due to lack of fitness as if it was some kind of 'gotcha' moment. My point was that 'being young' or lacking experience would not restrict Alexander from giving a player a starting berth if he felt they were fit and better than what we currently have.

 

Well of course not....all I said is it would take a bit of time for Metcalfe to become an established member of the starting 11 and from GAs comments it looks like the boy may have to wait and earn his shirt (providing others are fit).
