Yeh 16k looks a safe figure. What did we sell last season? Around 14k? So the lure of L1 football has added an extra 2k, while taking into account the £50 price increase too.

    Not bad....

I think it’s very good going. I’ve said before our prices this season are the same as Sheffield Uniteds when the won this league I believe and they sold around 15k. That’s a big club so to beat that is great going, we will probably sell a fair few more than Huddersfield as well and I think theirs are cheaper. When you see how many away tickets we’ve already sold for the first round of the cup as well, our fan base seems to continue to grow. Would love to see the sort of figures we could pull in at championship level.

Think I predicted between 17-18k so a tad out. That said with POTD and some good away followings we could average 20k next term if things are acceptable on the pitch. Very good for the coffers.

You would think at £299 or maybe even £349 we would sell close to 20k at that level.

L1 has some great games but in the CH its almost a great game every week.

Not sure about that Serge, in business terms thats a heck of a percentage rise in your customer fan base. A bit like the Man City analogy, they've been the best side in the premiership for a decade or so and tickets there are so easy to come by. I'd expect between 17 to 18000 would be sold if we ever get to the championship.

Most clubs in the EFL would bite one’s hands off for the % age increase in sales that we are likely to see if the final figure is indeed 16k sold . Add the fact the price increase on top , its outstanding and showed all along the value of promotion?

The current distribution of seats for away supporters, is around 3,000+. Add that onto the 17/18,000 potential season tickets, then gates in excess of 20,000 and potentially around 22,000 would be excellent.

Its an ambitious estimation but its more about affordable Championship football than the locals/fair weather supporters coming out of the woodwork.

Weve certainly not peaked in terms of fanbase when you consider the size of the catchment area.

And to think 3/5k was nothing unusual in the late 60s/70s

Some say televised games have an impact on attendances. What was the excuse back then?

If you can find gates for all games in that era they were all very low right up to the top. Guess footy wasn’t “hip” then. S£it grounds, etc.

The other difference was the wild variation from week to week. Think I mentioned it on here before but the old records from 60s fixtures had one week being 3000 and then 10000 the next. Not sure why but some one suggested it was because home gates swelled with fans of other local clubs playing away fixtures popping down to VP to get their Saturday fix.

A relative lack of disposable income compared to today is my guess.

Based on attendance figures alone we belong in the championship, unfortunately mega investment needed nowadays

That would be good going in those days ! There would be many on here who couldn’t comprehend the entire League game day crowd accommodated in the TL Dallas and a block on Midland Rd? . Boy it was soul destroying to see but we still had great times .

No it wasn’t that at all tbf. It was peanuts to get in , and pre disaster , if you knew the ground, often free to some.

It was just the football on offer and apathy by the Bradford public, not forgetting competition from Avenue, Northern and especially Leeds all playing their part .

Here you go the best figures I can readily access.

Actually 1968-1970 were relatively well attended.

The ones which were very low were 1976 & 1981 (interesting how many on here were apparently going regularly in those seasons;)).

The two seasons in the Premiership were unsurprisingly the highest average in the current stadium, but not by much.

The last time the club got an average of over 20,000 was 1922!

No problem. Yes rival teams , whatever sport , certainly didn’t help . We were lucky , Avenue folded, it could easily have been us .Avenues ground was certainly better than VP in the 60’s .
