Thread for people who are genuinely interested in this tournament - I can't be the only one on here. Please don't railroad with tedious unfunny jokes about ironing / how you hate women commentators or whatever - it's boring.

I am feeling pretty positive about the Lionesses chances of progressing now we've avoided the trickier half of the draw and had 2 strong performances (yeah I know only Wales but you can only beat what's in front of you!). When France were losing and we were briefly top of the group i did ponder as to whether they (France) might be throwing it on purpose to get the 'easier' route!

Think we've got a decent team from midfield to attack but I worry about the defence. Lucy Bronze isn't the player she was and Jess Carter is very slow. Both seem like weak links which stronger teams will look to exploit (as France did esp with Carter at LB which clearly exposed her more than in the middle).

I watched most of it last night and thought England played reasonably well considering they probably knew they were winning comfortably from early on.

The thing I'm finding puzzling is certain teams 'celebrating' when scoring after already being 4 or 5 down.

I've seen it a couple of times so far and with the Wales goal she was performing a full on celebration to the crowd which mind of made her team look very, very amateur.

Anyway, I digress, I think they've a decent chance of going all the way as they look to be getting better with every game and Lauren James looks every bit the difference maker you need to win tournaments.

Yes the celebration for Wales' goal when 5 - 0 was pretty tinpot from them! I was minded of Scotland (men) in last Euros versus Germany, they celebrated a goal kick like a goal! Ended up being the highlight of their tournament!

Game was effectively won at half time, turned into a bit of a training exercise. Agreed on James, she is so casual in her demeanor but she has the talent to back it up. Sure Sweden will be a much tougher test but reckon we'll have enough to beat them. Then it'd be Norway or Italy in the semi, neither are any great shakes. Gives us a great chance to get to the final

I think Sweden will be the toughest test on the route to the final. I rate them as a lot better than Norway and Italy. The other half of the draw is stronger.

Through to the quarter finals after winning last 2 of the group games. Play Sweden next on Thursday which won't be easy, they won all their group matches including impressive looking win against Germany. If we get past them would be Italy or Norway in semis, neither are particularly high ranking.

If we do make it to the final I would be surprised to play anyone but Spain who look ominously good. If I am being honest I can't see anyone but them winning it but you never know in a final.

Yeah agree on that, as I mentioned in the first post the defence is what worries me most. Bronze's tendency to get caught out of position and Carter's lack of pace put us in trouble. Got plenty going forward though so hopefully will be enough to get us to final, and keep everything crossed Spain have an off night en route to or in the final!

I don't really know much about women's football, so I've no idea whether Carter is any good at club level, but I do think she's a weak spot in the England side. When they're playing to their full potential though, they do look really good in other areas of the pitch. Glad they managed to bounce back convincingly from their defeat to France. I hope they do well.

I found the Welsh celebration embarrassing....5-0 down. What on earth were they thinking.

That they had won a corner in the 89th minute of 2013 League Cup final?

what makes it even more funny is Hannah Cain the player who scored it, is English and represented England at U19 level!

Yeah i am not a huge follower of the wsl either. I think if Millie Bright was available Carter would probably not be getting in the starting 11

To be fair it wasn't the worse celebration on that day, god only knows why Fifa had Donald Trump front and centre of the world club cup trophy celebrations, then again they had that Salt Bae bell end wondering round after the actual world cup. They are turning what should be epic celebrations into the joke that is the superbowl celebrations when an owner rocks up and takes all the glory.

It was a huge achievement for the Wales to qualify and then to be put in a group of death with France, England and Netherlands meant their chances of getting a point were tiny so success for them was getting a goal which they managed to do twice.
The team has come a long way from 2003 when the Welsh FA withdrew the team from qualifying for euro 2005 as they wanted to put the funds in the men's team. They were there to enjoy themselves and celebrate their achievement of qualifying which is what they did.

Tonight was the first full game I have watched of the tournament and Norway were terrible. Can't see how England or Sweden do not steamroll past Italy
