I agree with that but again that’s in an ideal world where you’d have your best options available for 46 games. Look at our problems at centre half and then in centre / attacking mid later on, with a bit of bad luck you can have too many injuries for just a 22 man squad to cover. We have a solid RWB in Halliday so if we get injuries to our LWBs or have a few injuries in those attacking positions then it’ll be a massive bonus to have Neufville who’s able to play there. Like someone else posted, the recruitment team have seen Neufville perform well on the left so why would they not consider him in that scenario. We’ll see as the season goes on but I can see a few players covering different positions as happens every season, Humphries is another, he can play out wide or as a centre forward and I imagine we’ll see him play both

 

So Wimbledon were crazy play Neufville on the left for their playoff games then but it worked and they kept 3 clean sheets and got promoted. Its versatility and it can be invaluable

Why on earth would you then want to sign someone as mediocre just because they "ran around a bit"?

Not being good enough in any of the positions was what worked against him keeping a set position.

If he was any good at any of the multiple positions he'd played then he wouldn't have been moved around in the first place.

I feel your examples here are poor and the ultimate response you'll come back with is "we got promoted" but when the players you named are looked at individually, they were not good enough to make an impact in the "filling in" role.

To be fair to Khela he only filled in at wing back in a couple of matches, he didn't start there.

Leigh was poor up front. He missed chances that if he had scored would have meant we probably went up easier than we did.

Walker, again, contributed in terms of 'team work rate' but didn't score enough or create enough assist and this is why he left unfortunately.

Not sure who else comes into this "filling in" category - Wright maybe? As many people thought at the start of the year - he isn't good enough defensively to play left wing back and his performances last season showed this to be correct.
