Thought it was more like £200k (still an absolute steal)

I think he refers to a sell on fee… Apologies if I misunderstand .

Vale have signed 24 year old forward Ben Waine on a 2 year deal. Same age as Swan, was on loan at Mansfield last year and scored 2 in 25. For those not impressed with the Swan signing, I dread to think how you'd feel if the signings were the other way round.

Feels like there are not many forward options available at the moment. Clubs have to decide to try and get what they can now or risk someone will become available as the season starts.

Clubs with will be looking for the loanee
“ window” opening which is late July from memory . Port Vale seem to have gone under the “signings” radar thus far . On paper that signing looks a bit meh ?

Like someone has said above, Strikers appear really hard to come by at the moment. You’d think Tolaj and Stockley will be there front two and this lad as back up.
Just seen they’ve signed Morasi too today. Very good goalkeeper but has had injuries recently.

Didn’t do at all well at bottom club Cambridge , hence is that why they released him ? I wonder if Vale got him as back up ?

He only played 2 games before getting injured. Shrewsbury fans thought he was the best keeper in League one the season they stayed up and then Rooney took him to Plymouth.
Not sure if he will be a starter as they have Ben Amos on the books too. It’s certainly going to competitive next season.

While you must consider current squads, looking at L1 transfer business I am happy with ours in comparison.

Could be wrong but just my opinion based on paper.

    Barnsley - shite
    Blackpool - decent
Bolton - meh (and lost a few)
    Cardiff - done nothing
    Doncaster - ok
Huddersfield - good (but manager a worry)
    Luton - 1 or 2 look ok
    Mansfield - average
Northampton - looks 2-3 decent business
    Peterborough - doing bits
Plymouth - looks strong but lost key players
    Port Vale - nothing special
    Reading - just Paudie
    Rotherham - shite
    Stockport - lost better players
    Wigan - mixed bag
Wycombe - very busy but lost a few

I think defensively we look in a good place… in the middle of the park and upfront I think we are light. I can’t see Swan or Kav setting the world alight and who knows if we will ever see Andy Cook back to his best.
We were very easy to create chances against last season despite having a decent defence, that starts higher up the pitch and it hasn’t been addressed imo. Plenty of time though.

Id say decent so far...we 1 or 2 light, need a Smallwood replacement. Tilt and Pennington didnt really excite me but the other 6 look decent additions.

Bigger picture is we are doing our business early and addressing problem areas. We will see if we have brought in the desired quality.

100% we need a Smallwood replacement. Something about Power just doesn’t fill me with much confidence in replacing him and we were light in the centre of the park last season as showed with Smallwoods suspension. Even if Power is 10x better than Smallwood, we still need another addition.

Upfront I think we’ve done well with Humphrys. Looks like someone who can offer something different for us as one of the two number 10’s. Will be interesting to see how Pointon adapts to L1 football.

I really hope that Cook can come back and grab 15 goals but I really can’t see it to be honest, I’d love to be wrong though.

Our advantage over 60% of the division and all the promoted sides is we have recruited those with huge divisional experience , recruited early , nor lost any of our key players ( And that includes RS) . EG Donny have lost their two main central defenders , nor have we had a need to replace outstanding loanees who have returned to parent clubs . Add to that they are all going to have basically a full preseason together. I’m optimistic based on those key ingredients alone .

Without fear of being controversial , do we think Bobby will be ahead of Humphrys , if the tried and tested formation is retained , I think BP might be a bench player ?

I can see both sides. Keep Pointon in, he knows the system. Bench Pointon and ease him into League 1 just as he was eased into League 2.

I think GA will bench him to be honest. He will go with Humphrys who’s been there and done it in League 1. Bring Pointon on if chasing a game and there’s nothing to lose.

I must add, I don’t think Pointon has anything to prove, he’s a special talent and I think he will adapt just fine to League 1 football, might just take a few weeks to adjust?

He has to prove himself in the division above that’s my point , it won’t happen overnight as you say. Remember no room for sentimentality. Maybe they might find a niche position for him however they won’t have recruited Humphrys to sit on a bench.

I think something about Power makes GA think he is a better option than Smallwood we will have to wait and see if he is right or not

100% need more in midfield. Smallwood was never injured, rarely suspended over 3 years at City. Power last played a competitive 90 on October 25th 2023.... if he can just plug in and play and pick up his Wigan form and fitness, fantastic. But he'll be 32 come the first game of the season and going from barely playing to being the main man might be a challenge.

Pattison too, love the bloke but he is another that might need his minutes managing to stay fitter for longer. The team just didn't go through the gears as well and broke into the final third as well when Pattison wasnt playing. I think CM is still very light, 2 bodies needed. Unless Sarcevic drops deeper?
