I get there's questions there because we have really seen Cook in the system but think back to Mansfield away and Gillingham away in recent years. Two clear examples of Cook pressing right out to the touchline, winning the ball and going on to score.

I'm sure there's many more examples of his work rate too and I'm absolutely convinced that he could do a great job in the current system in terms of having enough ability to press while still being the effective striker we know he is.

We will never know how we might have gone with a fully fit squad all season
I think we would have won the league, but all clubs get injuries to a greater or lesser degree
What I do believe though, is that Cookie would have helped with that dreadful away form

Is that it ? , Do we recruit by opinion polls on this forum for example or do we let people engaged to do a job professionally do the work? Whilst disagreeing with some , it’s their decision and professional standing at the end of the day not some 15 year old Crawley fans hiding under a blanket with the lights out, especially AFTER a player has been transferred.

Look at the first comment on this Crawley link then look at the rest ripping the poster to shreds ?
I bet you read the first comment and made your mind up ?

I’ll leave it there , you stick to other forums for forming opinions , me I think for myself .

I would like to wait and see, why should I log out and not see other fan's opinions? I have only been underwhelmed at 1 signing but why should my opinion on a player I have never seen be better informed than that of a professional recruitment team?

I know the Windass thing has been mentioned but are there others at Wednesday, who’d be worth a shout? Or if we’ve sounded anyone out from there?

There is no doubt we missed Cook at times especially in the run in but with him there the temptation to play the easy ball is to great Mark him out the game and stop us playing. What stopped us winning the championship was first losing the entire first choice defence to injury and the the first choice midfield.

I'm struggling to work out which players count as our 22 outfield players.

    From the EFL Regulations:

    Definition of 'under 21 player'

"Under 21 Player’ means a Player under the age of 21 as at the 1 January in the year in which the Season concerned commences (e.g. for Season 2025/26, born on or after 1 January 2004) but excluding any Player registered in accordance with the Youth Development Rules."

So where does Bobby Pointon fit into this?

Smith and Oduor were part of the first team squad and they were both used - last summer we wernt trying to shift them on. We tried to shift on Oliver but had to wait until January.
Wilson was at All Saints all season.

For balance, Stubbs, Taylor, Gilliead and Odusina were all under contract and moved on in some capacity.

We've got more than a month until the first game and 2 months until the squad lists need to be finalised so plenty of time. The nearer we get to that time the more urgency they will have, I don't see anyone wanting to stay when they know they won't make the squad list especially as Smith and Wilson are out of contract in the summer.

Wilson was loaned out mid August. Oliver had a good pre-season and earned himself a place in the squad. People assumed Oduor would leave but Alexander never said he wanted him to leave and Oduor got starts early in the season.

Absolutely non of them will come here. Windass at 31 will be looking for his last big contract and was linked with the likes of Valencia and Santos bizarrely last Jan. Anyone seriously thinking he’d come here has had far too much sun.

These are the squad list regulations. Pointon is no longer an U21 player so he will need to be registered, it is the same with Kavanagh who was an U21 player last season so we got 2 bonus places with them 2 that we won't have this season unless we can bring in an U21 player who's a regular starter.

I beg to differ regarding Bobby. His birthday is Jan 4 2004 so meets the birthday criterion (born on or after Jan 1 2004) for an U-21 player as quoted in @Stafford Bantam@Stafford Bantam 's earlier post. As a first team contracted player, he doesn't fall foul of the Youth Development Rules.

On the other hand, Kav's birthday is before the qualifying date so is no longer an U-21 player

Not disputing that what I am saying is we changed they way we played granted Sarcevic was missing upto Christmas patto was injured a few months in but we struggled to make the top 7 never mind the the top 3 whilst Cook was in the team. You say we brought in lapslie and Leigh but neither really became starters in the team for long periods.

Like I say I love Cook but we definitely changed the way we played when he got injured.

We changed from 3-5-2 to 3-2-4-1 which conicndentally saw the start of a our good run, Andy Cook started the first six games of this good run.

According to Soccerbase, Bobby was born on 4 January 2004, which means he was under 21 according to page 223 of the EFL regulations (i.e. born on or after 1 January 2004). The bit I was struggling with was the "but excluding any Player registered in accordance with the Youth Development Rules.".

So are you saying that even though he qualifies as "under 21", he doesn't qualify because he is a "Player registered in accordance with the Youth Development Rules"?

I love Cook mate but we play a different style with him in the team and that's a fact backed up by results. I am a big kavanagh fan as well and yes his first touch needs to improve but wells didn't have a great first touch either in his first 18 months yet look what happened to him. If you look at Kavanagh at Swindon how many strikers would be the the fox in the box pouncing on loose balls like he did ?.

I don't deny Sarcevic was missing in action (injured( when cook was in the team but patto played many a game before his injury. Are we saying sarce injury then cost us the title?

It's obviously all about opinions but I don't think we missed Cook in the way many think not because of what he does he is a too player but because how we adapted and changed they way we played. Lump football certainly became less that's for sure with Cook not in the team.

I would say it was more 3-4-2-1 to tbh or even 3-1-3-3 with Smallwood sitting and patto in front box to box

I'm a bit puzzled by the exclusion of those players registered in accordance with the Youth Development Rules. That suggests that any player currently registered with the Academy doesn't count as an U-21 player. That just sounds wrong. It doesn't impact Bobby but may impact on some of our other 'youth' players if they are still registered with the Academy.
