Will Swan

I think he might surprise you Jon. I've always liked Swan and thought he had a bit about him. I'm hoping he's one that can thrive in a better set up.

At the end of the day someone has played for or signed by someone with a connection . People , players , managers move from club to club. A bit of a lazy pointless argument if player x played for team y in 2018, because David Sharpe’s dad owned a football club , or Gent speaks with a Wearside accent…nuts.

Fair enough-I would argue that we are delighted with the signing is better and does sound more accurate as actual people representing the club were involved in the signing not the legal entity. Anyway at least we are making signings.

 

And pretty decent ones too compared to our competition?

I could be imagining this but I'm sure we were linked with him last summer before he went to Crawley or it might have been after his loan spell at Mansfield before signing permanently but I'm sure I remember his name being mentioned in the past.

With the way we played in the 2nd half of last season we need out more than just a goal threat, we need that workrate to press from the front which it looks like he has. I wouldn't be surprised if we look at him as an option as one of the 10s behind the striker.

When he was coming through the Forest Academy then had the loan spell he was highly rated so there is talent there it's just finding out how to get the best out of him and it can happen. Charlie Kelmen was only a year younger last season and he ended up scoring more goals last season in 46 league games than the previous 136 combined.

Another consideration is he has similar stats to Doyle the season we ended bottom, fans called him shit and we saw what happened at Swindon. Doyle didn’t play out of position like Swan either. No guarantees it will pay off, but for me this sort of signing is a far cry from a Robinson, Guthrie or Samuels etc. We’d have taken him after he helped rip us apart last time Mansfield visited us.

 

What this shows is how many new fans we’ve got because if they’d followed us before last season they’d know Swann was a horrible player to play against

 

If we get the player who always seemed to impress for Mansfield, we should have a good signing on our hands.

I watched that clip and saw some tap ins, headers and shots from around the box. So where do Cook and Kav score their goals from if they aren't shooting at the goal from various positions?

 

Granted we made Mansfield look like 2009 Barcelona but I can remember Swan and Keillor-Dunn were the stand outs that day

 

Difference with Doyle is he was a proven goalscorer before he came to us.

 

Smart signing won’t be expensive and one for development if he can find the form he showed at Mansfield under GA guidance it might be a very smart move - welcome Willl
