We tried for Mbappe and Rhodri , but they turned us down for Real Madrid and Man City…. Life is a bugger sometimes Goose;)

Has anyone shown any interest in Smallwood yet?

I'm intrigued to see who will come in to play centre midfield.

The right signing could be a real boost and propel the squad/team forward.

A key position i feel where an investment in terms of a small transfer fee or higher wages should be looked at in order to get a strong player in.

There's been nothing public from what I can see but I'm sure his agent will have had enquiries, the question for him will be if he is going to hold out for a league 1 move or if he is prepared to go back to league 2, if he is then he probably needs to be realistic with wage demands.

Thanks for that, I know nothing has been said but I thought I must have missed something.

Agree with this. We’ve signed a number of ‘can do a job’ ‘will help us consolidate’ type of signings but nothing to really get excited about in terms of quality. Predicting a 14th place finish as things stand.

For RC it’s probably “ location “ not division…. They have a less than one year old baby, I’m sure Exeter is off his radar?

    No!

The 2-year offer is effectively a new deal, as opposed to 2 plus the additional.

Yes of course , you misunderstand , yes it’s a new deal made up of two segments …Think about it …That’s maybe why he hasn’t signed?

The longer it goes without a specific DM replacement for Smallwood the more I convince myself we strung him along until we found out if Power was signing. It does leave a bit of a sour taste in the mouth but at the same time we do need to be ruthless as well so as long as it's ultimately the best thing for City in the long run it's what needed to happen

I kinda see it the other way. I can imagine 1 or 2 L1 clubs will be interested but maybe as a squad member to boost the ranks and add his experience/leadership but his salary may not be as high. I can see a number of L2 and NL clubs wanting him more and maybe offering a better salary to entice him.

Smallwood has a great CV and lots of credit in the bank after last season.

Possibly re: Power or we have missed our target or we are specifically targetting someone who is keen to join but we are in a transfer chain.

It was interesting that Sparks highlighted this was GA's decision and reading between the lines nobody elses. He cleared that up - and TBH it should be the managers decision. Got the feeling that RS didnt agree with it, but of course supports it as he probably has too.

I don’t think anyone is expecting a promotion charge in year one , we need to be realistic for sure, but that is in no way a reflection on transfer dealings which have been a step up in quality for many reasons . Just take each individual in turn and look at their divisional experience .

We can’t get sentimental and ruthless in the same breath….Its football, players move on Doodle.

Current squad as I see it...didnt include Smith and Wilson as they are done. Obviously 1 or 2 below could go aswell but they have squad numbers.

    GK - WALKER, HILTON
    RWB - HALLIDAY, NEUFVILLE
    LWB - TOURAY, RICHARDS
CB - WRIGHT, PENNINGTON, TILT, BALDWIN, KELLY, BYRNE
CM - POWER, PATTISON, LEIGH, ODUOR
AM - SARCEVIC, POINTON, LAPSLIE, WRIGHT
FW - COOK, KAVANAGH, HUMPHRYS, SWAN

    YTH - HADI, GOODMAN, IBBITSON

If money were no barrier . Two big tents required

Another CM and a stand out man up top

    Good business so far though.

The lack of a DM is the obvious stumbling block in that list.
I’m not convinced about Power in that role (despite what GA says)

We saw last year how important RS was.
I think the position may be even more important in Lge 1.

Get that sorted and I don’t think we are far off.

I know we are not quite into July yet, but I'm worried that we are not going to see another DM brought in, and that GA sees Power in that role, even if he does, we surely need another in the mould of Smallwood?
