It’s not the council that decides to list buildings. It’s a recommendation from Historic England which is then approved by the Secretary of State, for Culture, Media & Sport.
In the case of Richard Dunn, the 20thC Society made the original suggestion for the listing. It was approved by the last government.
The council were spitting feathers at the decision as they are still responsible for it and it severely limits what they can do with the site.

Whatever the final outcome, it needs to be redeveloped. Either with the current ‘listed’ building or not. As I have said many times it could be an excellent site for a training ground.

I know all too well about listed buildings, my company does restoration work on them
Yes they are listed by English Heritage, but it’s the council’s conservation department that is ultimately responsible for there management and monitoring
The issue with Dunn’s , was they closed it down for cost cutting, without any proposals in place for what they would do with the land or any demolition orders in place . Thus giving time for the listing to be approved
I believe it is now costing thousands in security to maintain the status quo with no outcome in sight
That’s my gripe with the council.
Another monumental *@?$ up at the good citizens expense

Me too but it was never really a favourite. Always seemed more set up for a food pub and because it was fairly big, if it wasn't full it just felt empty.

£3 for a pint and £2 subsidy for the council if you park on North parade after 6pm for an hour
Or maybe we will all cycle in on the £8 million road to nowhere bike lane on Thornton road

I’m amazed that there are allegedly 1000s spent/wasted on security.
I walk my dog there almost daily.
There are no longer 2 kids sitting in a car watching the area.
There are a LOT of kids encroaching the building.
Not seen any new security cameras around either.
Such a waste of space and opportunity for Bradford and sport.

I agree it should be redeveloped as Steve says the council were against it being a listed building, it's madness that an area that size can't be put to better used for houses or as you suggest another use, even thought IMO it's a concrete monstrosity (like many of our newer buildings in Bradford) I'm surprised some toe rag hasn't tried to torch it.

It’s £5-6 for a pint in most of Norfolk so stop whinging . Cycle lanes …we are lucky to see tarmac once every 5 years . You don’t know when you were born ;)

Yes £thousands according to a report in the T&A
I was amazed at the cost , closed in November 2019 and as of jan 2023 around £150000 had been spent because of the listing and security
Can’t imagine what it’s at today

So nothing to do with the council “creating” listed buildings. Why didn’t you say that originally if you knew ?
6 people applied for listing building status at one of my stations which was built in 1960 . NWR had NO OPTION but to adhere to its listed status , thus trebling any future work costs . To clarify it WAS NOT the local councils fault, nor NWR , Facts do get in the way of a good narrative ?
