I think this is where we differ. You hear something and run with it, repeatedly. This misinformation is then used as stick to beat the club with, at any opportunity. Whereas if it was me, I’d just wait and see before making myself look like a god damn fool.

    It was mate
The premier league is a million miles away today from what it was then
I think the bubble has surely got to burst at some point and leave many a club well and truly up the creek without a paddle

Even if Rupp was going to 'go for it', it wouldn't be this season.
Luton with the parachute payments means there is only really two promotion spots available.

Hope all that money and they flop personally
It’s cash they could never earn and completely distorts the leagues

You can’t approach any campaign with that mentality. There’s always going to be clubs in this league who will have playing budgets around the £20m mark. It was no different the last time we were in L1 - mixing it with Wolves, Sunderland, Blackburn etc.

It's a £39m parachute payment I believe, this season. That just takes any 'chance' out of it.

Which will also be used to pay off losses and satisfy their current wage bill which L1 income won't be able to accommodate. Doesnt mean they will go out signing £2m players on £20k a week.

We won't be looking to just avoid relegation this season, at all. We have a well drilled system and I think Sparks was saying our incomings will increase by £3-4 million and seemed to be indicating there may be another modest injection by Rupp (say what you like about Sparks, but he does the commercial side well).

I think we are likely going to be trying to aim for a top half finish. As we have momentum and a very specific system, we can look to make signings who make up more than the sum of their parts by being well-suited for the system - a lot of people didn't rate hardly any of our defenders last year, yet we had the 2nd best defence.

Stay solid at the back, get a load of hard runners for our pressing system and a few players who can provide a moment of magic and / or put the ball away and we can look to see if we can compete for the last play-off spot. With luck and a fair wind we have a chance at least

If they do sign ,surely that’s us done defence wise
Especially if Kelly and Richard’s put pen to paper
    Although very quiet on both
Do we have cover at right wing back

Even if they put a bit to one side for the stadium, it does mean they'll have a playing budget over £30m+.
I would think ours will be in the region of £6-7m.

In terms of signings, we seem on the way with centre backs. We will need a RWB and a LWB or two, a quality DM to replace Smallwood, a couple of L1 quality 10s, a marquee replacement for Cook and probably a decent young loan as a back up and we're pretty much there

Just a reminder that Kieran Maguire stated that the average weekly wage in League One was £3,700 in 2023/24. It will have gone up a bit since, but I would be surprised if it's gone up as much as some are imagining in this thread.

I think it’s more than that, but as mentioned, a lot of that is there to cover wages for players that have significantly underachieved. Luton have had 2 successive relegations - they need to stop the rot. It’s an early prediction based on a bunch on nothings at the moment, but they won’t find L1 a breeze at all, despite their inflated budget.

Unless you have an owner who's crazy rich, then no club will be signing players that break the bank.

From your posts on here, it's hard to figure out just what it is that you want, although you only have to look back to your posts last year to see you have form for sowing seeds of negativity. I can be negative, but when it is warranted.

The average wage in league 1 was £3.7k, as was proved on here last week. We are a recently promoted club that will likely have a good number of players who will be over that mark. It seems like you wanted us to sign Pearson on an alleged £9k per week. This is a player that was released by a mid-table side and they were happy to see the back of him. Just because someone has championship experience doesn't mean they are worth breaking the bank over, we saw how shite Josh Wright and Hope Akpan were from that level.

I am happy to see how the summer transpires before throwing any toys out of the pram, the club have earned that after last season. I'm happy with Joe Wright at probably half the price, and I don't expect the club to throw silly money at a player just to show we have spending power.

If, trueWhat happened with the younger players Sharpe promised.
I think we had the second best "team" for conceding goals. The team was the majority of the rime - was set up to defend. 3, cbs, 1 gk, 2w backs and a midfielder sitting in front.
