Yes read that , we don’t play with 4 at the back, so rule that one out. The playing of three at the back with the wing backs way up field is a risk to any side playing three at the back, whether it be on the left or right. It’s got to be a balance and sitting slightly deeper.

 

Whilst there may be some shifting across due to injuries, all being equal I don't think Kelly and Tilt will be competing for the same spot... Tilt would be in the centre and Kelly on the left. At first last season Kelly was playing central and shepherd left but they both looked much better when they switched around so expect LCB to be the spot Kelly is pencilled in for if he stays

 

Kelly isn’t good enough sorry. Passable for L2 but please watch his distribution V Fleetwood , it’s rank poor!

 

Personally I feel Kelly has been underrated through his time here and continues to be... Think he'll do a job in league one.

Either way, it's irrelevant as all I was saying is I don't think they'll be fighting for the same spot

Yes he might play the odd decent game but to give him a 2 year contract is a crime considering we let our captain go.

We need better signings than what we have so far. Poor window for us at this moment, lucky we have plenty of time to go.

 

Well as the dust settles on the announcement of Tilt's signing, its fair to say that most of us have classed the signing as underwhelming or worse.

I hope the lad proves us all wrong and he will get my 100% backing whilst wearing the shirt.

From the comments I've seen from Salford fans, he does appear to be a no nonsense type of centre half who is not averse to the dark arts. One fan said he enjoys picking up strikers and throwing them to the floor, that made me laugh as I instantly remembered Rory McArdle.

Welcome aboard and hope his stay is a successful one.

 

I agree re Smallwood but Power and Tilt have lots of league one and above experience and they are both captains which show character and leadership experience as Does Smallwood which is why is departure is such a mystery

 

I think the narrative has changed over the day as more information on Tilt emerges. Probably only playing in league two because it’s moneybags Salford

You may be right , we shall see , however we all appreciate we don’t have the vast amounts of money as some clubs do.

 

‘Headline’ is probably even the incorrect wording. As a comparison, ‘Udders have brought in Ryan Ledson this week - a good age, played umpteen times in the Championship last season.. an ‘upwards looking signing’. Tilt is 34, played in a mid table league 2 side last year and is the polar opposite. When we signed Andrew Davies, even Richie - these were signing that whet your appetite and had an ambitious feeling about them. On the back of a promotion, we should be building momentum, Curtis Tilt (a day after losing RS) isn’t that. If Stefan is prepared to back us a bit, then let’s aim for a solid mid table and funnier things have happened. I may be proved wrong, however Curtis Tilt doesn’t feel like the right direction for this football club at this time. If he’s a stater, then I feel like I need to realign my ambitions this coming season.

 

It mentions him playing left sided in a three at the back too. That's why I cropped it.

 

If our back 3 is Baldwin (or whoever), Tilt and Kelly for the majority of the season then name your price for a BUB because we're getting relegated. Absolutely no danger.

Completely agree and I'm relaxed as I think it's an area we'll definitely strengthen. My post was in relation to those 3 being our first choice back 3 which I absolutely don't think it will be.

 

And who most recently played in League 2. It's about the player he is now, not what he was 8 years ago.

This would be an underwhelming signing if we were in League 2. For League 1, it's not going to cut it.

I'll judge our business as a whole, but this one looks like a nailed on 'miss' of Ash Taylor proportions to me.

 

You have to wonder what the thought process of the club was on this signing. Do they know more than you do about the player? His fitness, style etc. We shall see.

If he’s not a success as a defender, with a name like that, he’d be perfect for being a Barry White cover artist. I can already see the album cover.
