Which defenders, currently at the club would you consider a definite starter next year? Probably Halliday, maybe Richards if he stays and that's about it.

 

Not really. He's had one very good half a season in the 3 years he's been here. Other than that he's been largely disappointing.

 

Shame Shepherd isn't here as I'd have said he would be and I think Tayo has it in him at league 1 level. As you say, the ones currently here don't give off that air of being top league 1 level and really that's what we need.

 

Completely agree which was my original point when Doodle was accusing me of suggesting none of the back line were good enough.

I'd add Halliday to the list too though. He's got a bit of a Wayne Jacobs feel to him where he's usually solid enough and may be able to improve to keep pace with any team improvements.

 

If our back line next season is Kelly, Baldwin, Byrne, we have a bottom half finish nailed on, and a likely relegation battle.

 

I seem to recollect GA admitting he'd never played the 3 CB system at any of his previous clubs and only implemented after coming in to VP and seeing the players available.
Maybe he's looking to go to a 4 at the back he is more familiar with and bring in the correct players for that system ???

 

He said in an interview after the season finished that system/tactics would be more of the same.
