Byrne was the weakest of our defenders but he played his part in our promotion and deserves some credit for that

 

Baldwin moving to the middle of the back three was a bit of a turning point.

 

Byrne was steady Chritlow was our weakest player by a long way. Baldwin and shepherd were the reason we defended so well

 

But we DID change it in January.

We brought in Crichlow, Huntington and Adaramola. All of whom played major parts in our excellent post Christmas form and at times all 3 played together which is 60% of the back 5 that weren't at the club in January.

At what point during this interview did he mention that?

I didn't 'trawl' through your posts, I searched 'defence' under your user name - it took less than a minute. For example, here's another post from as late as 28/4/25 saying all of the defence needs to be replaced, even if we don't go up, and that you predicted this all along and were being proven correct (we had the 2nd best defence in the league even at that point):

"Baldwin has had 3 decent months since Christmas when the team was flying but as soon as they've dropped off and the team has come under pressure he's fallen apart, the same as all of the defence.

Predictably much like the rest of them, he's simply not good enough and needs replacing in the summer regardless of the division.

What are your thoughts on Smallwood? You know a few things....

 

Right at the beginning

 

Apologies not sure what happened with my first response, it appears i may have misheard.

At the beginning of the piece, its detailed we were relegated on a budget of £4.2m i think that is also fairly common knowledge.

At around the 12m 30sec mark of the interview, i thought i heard him say our budget for next season IS what we got relegated on, and that L1 is a different beast to 2019 in which that budget was a top 6 budget then.

Listening back he may have said, our budget for next season TO what we got relegated on is a different beast

 

Hope to god whoever found out the Tilt news got it wrong and we are actually getting Fornah who was at Salford last year. Thought he looked impressive and could fill the Richie slot in L1.

 

I have been joining in with this anti Tilt discussion on here but when you look at his career he has a lot of championship and league one experience and going on his Stats he was one of Salfords better players last season. So I can’t really see where the negativity is coming from other than his age he is 33

 

What can I say, other than our playing budget next season will be significantly higher than £4.2m.

Again, we spent more last/this season.

Discussions were held with Smallwood. Talks of a 1 year deal were in the making, but Alexander has had a change of heart.

It’s personnel/quality in mind, and has absolutely nothing to do with finances - before anyone cares to mention it.

 

I'm quite comfortable with the process. Lots of water to flow under that bridge and reported spending on wages for 25/26 can't be right as revenues ( season ticket prices etc) have grown, though I accept player wages will have too. Season ticket numbers don't bother me.
We got much right last season, the club including RS have credit in the bank at this moment.
